laliandra: (aspiration)
Hi my loves!

I think I've been more productive this week than I have been in the last two months combined. Come, let us bulletpoint.

  • I finished And The Sky Is Limitless \o/ FINALLY, RIGHT. I'm not sure quite when [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast and I came to the decision that we were finishing edits and posting it but it was sometime after 1am. So, yeah, I stayed up until 4am. But now it is done, hurray and people can READ IT, the WHOLE THING \o/\o/\o/
  • It even comes in a beautiful .pdf that [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact made. IT LOOKS LIKE A REAL BOOK, YOU GUYS.
  • I started my new job! Look at my priorities, lulz.
  • I handed in my TSNBB draft! I mean, it's a sham of a facsimile of a thing but it is IN and that's the important thing. Go Teaaaam \o/
  • I fixed the bug on my phone that was only letting me have one email account on it. I have many identities, phone, I need them all at my fingertips.
  • I dyed a white dress green after taking it up and re-hemming it. Because sometimes I am a fifties housewife.
But yes, New Job! It's one of those jobs that is both vague enough that's it's very hard to explain and specific enough that if I gave all of the details you'd be able to find me. Not that I mind that particularly but I like to pretend I am some good at having a Sekrit Identity. Anyway, I get to speak French all day every day because all of my co-workers and most of our clients are les francophones. Which is really great but also completely exhausting. It's been a while since I spoke French, never mind had to parse conversations between a group of native speakers, so the levels of concentration required at the moment are kind of killer. There is another girl, Elodie, starting with me, which is nice because it means we are learning together and get to ask each other stupid question. She's pretty awesome!

Elodie: Sorry, I have a really sarcastic sense of humour. Don't take me too seriously.
Me: That is the opposite of being an issue.

Elodie and I: *have a long ranting discussion about how terrible Twilight is*
Elodie: The thing is, I'm a feminist. Saying that there is nothing else in a woman's life apart from a man, that is everything I am fighting against.
Me: *_*

The whole atmosphere is so completely different to my last job, I can't even begin to tell you. My boss is lovely, slightly mad and very French. She keeps telling us how much she values our input. She tells us scandalous stories about our clients and google images the underwear models who work for us.

Also, slightly hilariously, there are already two people in my office and one in the Paris office with my actualfax RL name. So I will be Lal at work as well!

So, yes, it's been something of a crazy week. I have been so tired I've just been coming home and napping. I know it sounds strange, but I think finishing SPAU really knocked me for six, the sheer emotional investment I have in that story and those people is overwhelming. I have to take time before replying to comments, partly so that I can do the dance of comment joy, and partly so as I don't leave replies saying OMG YOU LIKE THEM I DO TOO I LOVE YOU FOR LOVING MY BABY. Yeah. Writing makes you crazy, y'all.

Anyway, I have to go sort out my big bang draft. Apparently when I said, "I REQUIRE THAT SOMEONE WRITE A CONPEOPLE  AU" that person turned out to be. Ugh, plot, how do you worrrrrrk. And the boyfriend has made lamb curry from scratch.

:D and how are yoooooou?

laliandra: (voyages)
Hello and welcome to the SPAU special bonus features!

First, art! I started writing this story a very long time ago, as evidenced by the fact that this was my Christmas present from [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast in 2009. It was a commission by [livejournal.com profile] celestialsoda (who seems sadly to have disappeared) of the opening scene and I love it beyond the telling of it. My reaction was the shriek MY BOYS over and over again. It's sort of giant, fyi.

ExpandGiant Picture Behind Cut! )

I also have a playlist of sorts. I mean, I’ve been writing this for so long that I have burned through a lot of songs, whole albums in fact. But these are my best of the bunch (with apologies to [livejournal.com profile] altogetherisi because I realised after I’d made her a playlist that there were quite a few SPAU songs on it and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] miabee023  for sending me awesome mixtapes that make me seem way cooler than I am) and I hope you like them. All of the artists are amazing, you should buy all of their albums :D

Download You Can’t Divide The Sky

You can also find this story at the AO3 or you can download the amazing, totally gorgeous .pdf version that [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact made. It is so pretty! #fontlove

Um, yes, and if there’s anything anyone wants to know, feel free to ask here. I feel like something of a narcissist but people said they had questions and I will happily talk about this ‘verse for all of time.
laliandra: (sky without end)
AAKJASDJH YOU GUYS IT IS DONE. Not quite but upsettingly nearly two years after I started. Thank you from the bottom of my neurotic writer's heart for each and every comment, they've all meant the world to me. Thank you to the lovely #spau fish for their encouragement and patience, and special credit to Bran (and Kris Allen) for this. Thank you to Isi for spoiling and for Starbucks, all of them. Thank you to everyone who let me whine at them over IM. Sorry! It's done now! Thank you to Lauren for helping me fix my srs bsns scenes and suggesting more feeling up. Thank you, although it's not even close to being adequate, to my best friend and best beta, [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast who made this sprawling mess make sense, and left me the funniest, most insightful, wonderful beta notes. She is the reason I wrote any of this.

Anyway, enough with the speeches! On with the show!

Added Extras Post
laliandra: (youramericanidol)
The universe has apparently decided to punish me for actually having things to do by making me ill at the most inconvinient time. I start my new job tomorrow! I have SO MANY THINGS TO WRITE, oh man. And I just want to curl up in a ball and sleep forever, or at least until I stop feeling achey and naseous and that things like "other people" and "clothes" are overwhelming and complex.

But oh well! I have some pictures and things to share with you and a meme! You know I love memes.

My lovely ex-housemate Elliot is staying with us at the moment while he is between houses. It's great because he loves to cook! And he brought a bread-maker, which I have been dorkishly excited about. We've made many types of bread, as well as pizza dough and tea cakes. BAKING \o/

I also made cupcakes solely so that I could try out the fancy new icing kit that my Dad sent me. I will freely admit to essentially being SweetOnYou!Wardo. I'm okay with that.

In SPAU news, I am nearly done with editing the final part \o/ I recently dug out the post-it summery system I used to plot out the whole sprawling mess, and somehow the last chapter translated from 3 notes into 10,000 words. No idea how that happened! Anyway, I thought I would share them with you, it's not spoilery - far too vague, especially as one of the notes just says, "THE END" and we all knew that was coming, right?

And for the last few days my other lovely ex-housemate, Belle, has been staying. I haven't seen for nearly 6 months, which has been horrible. She's been in Peru teaching, and she brought me back many things with llamas on. Hurrah! She's starting teacher training tomorrow, and the program she's on sounds more and more like a cult every time she mentions it.

Belle: We had to vote for a song of the 2011 cohort. And they are going to play it at every morning meeting.
Me: Oh god.
Belle: I'm there for 6 weeks.
Me: Oh GOD.
Belle: And I think we have to chant the mission statement.
Me: Should we start creating code words in case you need us to come break you out?

We had day out in Knaresborough, historical market town. I was mostly just excited about the bubblegum ice cream.

You also get to see my attempt to paint a tiny tie onto my nail, which was [livejournal.com profile] mcollinknight 's suggestion after I was discussing painting my nails Dalton Academy colours for the Darren Criss concert that I'm going to with [livejournal.com profile] altogetherisi (!!!!!)

I should return back to edits and also to trying to get my stupid TSNBB underway *clings to [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith and [livejournal.com profile] moogle62 * Quite how I conned my way into getting two such wonderful writing buddies I will never know... We are all in the same crazy boat of having decided, for reasons known only to our brains, of writing plotty AUs. TEAMTSNBB: WE ARE ALL INSANE.

But first, a meme from [livejournal.com profile] mistresscurvy

1. So TENNIS. What are your feelings? Who are your players? Thoughts on Murray's chances of breaking the curse?
Wimbledon! The thing you have to know about me and sport is that I am astonishingly poor at it, but love to watch other people play it. Tennis is so fascinating to me because it's such a strange mix of intimate, one-on-one psychological battling and pure athleticism. And everyone who plays is so different! There is no right way to tennis. There are plenty of wrong ways, mind, as I know all too well. Anyway, I don't have many players that I always support .I tend to cheer for the English and French players, but apart from that I like a good story. It takes one nicely put together package, one fight back from the brink or hilarious reaction and I am THERE. I get very invested very quickly, what can I say? I have a special fondness for Wimbledon because it reminds me of summer, and of my Mum's out of control crush on Andre Agassi. And it's so marvellously English and lovely.

2. What does your boyfriend think about all of your crazy fandom shenanigans?
Ahahaha, oh man. I sometimes think I'm going to write an essay about fandom and it will start - "my boyfriend doesn't understand fandom".  Which is not entirely true, but basically, he is pretty much a constantly cycling mix of amused, supportive and completely baffled. He understands some parts of fandom, I think, but not really how it actually functions. He is constantly suprised that we are, in essence, a society that functions without currency. He's always asking where the money for things comes from, why people are doing things if they're not getting paid. The idea that [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast has beta'd my 50k plus story for nothing but love blows his mind.  It's sort of hard to explain to someone, because it lacks a decent comparison. He is a dork in many ways, so he understands being a fan of something, but that's not everything that I mean when I say I'm from fandom, you know? It's so much more than that, sometimes I think defining oneself as being from fandom says more about your values and thought processes than something like your nationality does. Anyway, he's pretty supportive of my crazy writing habits, because I am a cliche writer and sometimes get lost in my own imagination. And now that he's met some of my fandom friends he seems to have been convinced that yes, we are actually real, proper, I love and value these people beyond measure friends. I mean, he still refers to y'all as my "crazy internet friends" but that is through observation, not through prejudice against friends made online. Okay, wow, this has turned into kind of an essay. He still calls the internet my other boyfriend a lot :D

3. What was your first fandom? Do you miss it?
It was Harry Potter! No surprises there, I think it's the same story for a lot of people my age or thereabouts. It's the gateway drug of fandom! And I do miss it sometimes, but I've kept the vast majority of the friends I made there, and I still get to be a super Potterhead a lot. It's not my main fandom in that I don't write in it anymore, really, but it's my forever fandom. I was massively excited about Pottermore! I love that there is still so much always to say and think about the series. I've just realised that I don't think I have anyone nearby to see the last movie with when it comes out, because all of my geeky friends are too far away or on holiday at the time. Woe. Harry Potter, I will never be over yoooooou.

4. If you could be anyone else in the world for one day, who would you choose and why?
Ooo, this is an awesome question! It's so tempting to say someone powerful but I'd probably just like to be rich and do lots of exciting things. I could be someone from fandom so that I could check on our canon. So tempted to say Mark Zuckerburg. Because being a politician wouldn't actually mean you could change the world in a day, but if you were 1. a billionaire and 2. in charge of Facebook...

5. Do you have siblings? If so are you close to him/her/them?
I don't! I am an only child. Make snap judgements about them at your peril.

If you want to play the questions game, ask and you shall receive. The number of the questions shall be five...
laliandra: (autobus)
Hey you guys!

*waves at new people* Hiheyhello I'm Lal. Lovely to see you. How have your *checks the day* Thursdays been? I spent most of mine eating icepops in the park because I'm English and suspicious of sunshine. It may disappear at any minute! FROLIC HARD.

If you want to add me on Twitter you should because sometimes things like this happen in my feed

BEST. EVER.

Also I have been having a lot of Thoughts about heist!AUs, aka the merry band of conpeople stories of my heart. I'm not sure what it says about me that I cannot get enough of Lying Liars Who Lie but whatever, any kind of AU where people are super smart and kind of criminal is pretty much guaranteed to be my favourite.

So when I saw the original facebook header I was like WHERE IS MY HEIST AU, SOCIAL NETWORK FANDOM? Come on, it would be so amazing. Mark as the head of a tiny criminal gang that everyone underestimates because of their youth and sweet looking faces until they pwn everyone and leave them sobbing in the ashes of their douchy big corporations? Win.

Which in turn made me think of this amazing gif of handsomeness, suit porn and fingersandleaningandnggggh. Ahem.

Inception/TSN? Arthur is like, I think you should tell me more about how that terrible man broke your heart and incidentally about those privacy settings on this "Facebook" thing... (because his research showed that the best way to get to Mark is through Wardo and the best way to get to Wardo is to look smoking hot and be super into him.) Orrr "speaking pointman to pointman". Even though I'm not sure that would be the casting I'd go for but STILL.

Also (Son of Also) it's been nearly two months and I haven't told any New York stories yet. Fail. What would y'all like to hear about?

Alsoalso (The Realsoing) I am going to be writing Glee fic for [livejournal.com profile] pod_together  and I'm not sure what to write yet so if you have had any wonderful fic ideas/thoughts/prompts throw them this way. I want to write something good because my podfic partner is really awesome *is smug*
laliandra: (voyages)
Um, yeah, about the wait and the cliffhanger. I have nothing but my most abject apologies. I have had the dreaded job hunting and my beta had the dreaded Finals but it's pretty much my own fault. This chapter, I swear to god, has been the hardest part to write by such a long way. But now it is done. As ever, thank you to my wonderful beta [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast for loving this chapter even when I didn't, and to [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith for letting me spam her with sentences on gchat when I was panicking and [livejournal.com profile] swiiftly for her superstar beta work.

Seriously, my boyfriend referred to Edaurdo from The Social Network as "the accountant one" and I was outraged on his behalf.

YOU GUYS thank you so, so much for all of your lovely comments at my love meme thread, seriously, I am verklempt. I keep going back and reading them, thank you anons and not so anons, you consistently brighten my day and I would like to snuggle you all to me. I think I caught everyone else's threads but if not lmk! What, it's not like I was being super mysterious with my comments.

Things are still kind of sucky with Real Life, which involves a lot of mooching around the house by myself punctuated by going for long walks in the park down the street. The lack of structure in my life has got slightly concerning.

Yesterday
Me: Huh, it's Wednesday but I don't remember what happened Tuesday.
Me:*ponders*
Me: Oh well! Must have just lost a day *carries on*

Today
Me: So I'll see you tomorrow!
Boyfriend: No, Friday.
Me: No, because. Oh. OH. Is today Wednesday?
Boyfriend: Yes... I think you need to get out more.

So that was alarming! But on the plus side I have a new phone which is lovely and functional and so very shiny! I may just refer to it as The Upgrade.

On a related note, a couple of people have asked what "SPAU" is. Which is really a reflection of how little I use the actual title of anything I write. It stand for SteamPunkAlternateUniverse, or the fic that I am (still, mother of god, what is wrong with me) writing. It's actually called And The Sky Is Limitless and I am currently mired in Part 5 of 6. If you like airships, banter about tea-making and people being stupid about the things and people that they love feel free to check it out :)? :D?

The main issue I am having (apart from the fact that writing feelings is hard, who knew) is that I've got really into this one fictional universe and can't think outside of it. I know there was a time when I couldn't move for plot bunnies and so it's really disconcerting to only be able to think of one story and not be able to come up with ideas for anything outside of SPAU (see).

Hopefully this will sort itself out because coming up I have [livejournal.com profile] thesocialbbang and [livejournal.com profile] pod_together

Open for sign ups May 16 to May 27 on LJ and DW
How much fun does that look? Come sign up with meeee!

And finally this is Percival

[livejournal.com profile] brimtoast bought him for me in Chinatown and he has three friends who now live in various parts of the USA. He was with a stand of Mario figures and pandas and cartoon creatures but we have no idea what he actually is. Apart from adorable, naturally. Both me and [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast 's boyfriend came to the conclusion that he looks like the simple dog from Hyperbole and A Half, with his little :/ face of confusion.

Do any of you recognise him from anything or is he just a Mysterious Blue Thing of Cute?

ETA: UGH, FAIL. Also I am still open for mixtape requests! If you want to download the ones I have already done there is: Tick All The Boxes - a mix for [livejournal.com profile] swiiftly who couldn't decide what she wanted and so got indecision. Check Your Cynicism At The Door - a bombastically happy mix for [livejournal.com profile] taurenova . Cheer Up Indie Kid - a happy but still vaguely cool mix for [livejournal.com profile] altogetherisi .

Hey y'all!

1. I RETURN! From the wilds of America. Admittedly I have been back a whole day but I spent most of yesterday asleep or just really confused by everything. My jet-lag (which I did not get at all going the other way) seems to be manifesting itself by having me wake up feeling like death and with dark circles under my eyes, the likes of which are usually only seen on TV detectives. And possibly RL detectives but I'm less exposed to them.

2. I had THE BEST TIME, OMG. Hello new friends from MJ! How are you coping with life without panels? I am probably going to try and write up my con report first and then my What I Did On My Holidays post after that. :D

3. In other VERY EXCITING NEWS the marvellous and talented [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact has made a podfic of Say I'm The Only Bee In Your Bonnet \o/! And it's amazing, she completely nails the character voices and everything and aaaaaaah, it's so delightful. GO LISTEN AND TELL HER SHE'S WONDERFUL :D!

4. In fic news, part four of And The Sky Is Limitless is In Edits and Part Five is going along merrily. I spent a wonderful few days with my beta and best writing partner and we did a lot of talking about the various writing projects that are on the go at the moment (there was also some TERRIBLE ENABLING) but also, you know, we had important conventions to go to :D. Update in the next few days. If you would like to read some updates that did get all finished while we were together, you should read [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith 's amazing Social Network AU WIP, in which Eduardo is the Prince of Brazil and Mark doesn't care. Of Fortune And Men's Eyes. Gogogogo. Also, no self, we do not want to write Inception genderswap. No.

5. *basks in the sunshine*

6. How is everyone?

The State of Things To Come

So, this is the first part the American Idol Steampunk AU that I’ve been writing for about 18 months now. The plan is to post it in parts - I’m currently estimating 6 - over the next few weeks. Basically this is the best plan my beta and I could come up with to provide the impetus to get the thing done, because then I have a deadline and a reason to finish up (and hopefully a good injection of enthusiasm)!

Because the large majority of this story is already written there shouldn’t ever be too long a wait for the next part, which is the main reason that WIPs make me sadface, and is the excuse I have for being a total hypocrite about this.

Author's Notes
I have so many people to thank, this is going to be like the Oscars only with less tuxedoes. Sadly. Firstly, this is my love letter to AI fandom and our summer of luh. Rock on, benches. Thank you so very much to Colline, Isi, Play, Kaz and everyone who has been resolutely encouraging during the (oh god) many months that I’ve been writing this. I would have given up on the whole thing without your awesome encouragement. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] swiiftly for looking over this post and holding my hand at the last. Extra special awards for cheerleading and panic managing above and beyond the call of duty go to [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact and [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith , who never judged me for yelling at my characters. Mostly though, thank you is inadequate for my marvellous beta [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast . If this story is my baby, then she is its fairy godmother and has nurtured it and talked me through character arcs and fixed my many, many errors and has never given up on me, even when I sent her drafts that said things like “Insert end of scene here” and “SOMETHING WITTY HERE”. I’m incredibly lucky to have her as my friend and to get to take advantage of her hilarious, charming, firm-but-fair beta skills. I’m still sorry about the commas, my dearest karalarabell.

Any remaining errors are my own fault or the result of me stubbornly waving my artistic licence.

Part One  Part Two Part Three  Part Four
laliandra: (jonnystew)
At the beginning of this month my Dad came to stay for a few days before he went back to South Africa. My Dad and I are extremely similar in a lot of ways. so mostly what we did was hang out and amuse each other and generally be terrible, terrible dorks. Which led to this conversation

Me: Did you, in fact, raise me geek?
Dad: Nah, you came to that naturally.
Me: It's in the genes. Eye colour, hair colour, ability to retain pop culture trivia...
Dad: The musical theatre thing, though, that we deliberately instilled in you from a young age.

(Which may have been why one of the first records I ever knew all the words to was the Chorus Line soundtrack. Even if I did think the song was called "One, sing your lesson sation." )

My boyfriend was away on holiday so Dad and I mostly hung out and talked a lot and watched a lot of TV. My Dad works in advertising, so we both really enjoy watching television and dissecting all the adverts, and we like to watch programs in the same way, by the MST3K method of yelling at the characters, calling tropes and generally trying to be The Wittiest.

So. Welcome to Lal and Father Watch Hawaii-50

Me: Hey, let's watch this! My... People... that I know have said it's good.
Dad: You were going to say people from the internet, weren't you?
Me: Maaaaybe. You make friends with people on Facebook social gaming. You don't get to judge.

Hawaii 50: *starts*
Dad: What is this, the All New Sexed Up Version?
Grace Park: *appears on screen in a bikini*
Me: Imma say yes.

Steve: *is attacked by people in a helicopter*
Me and Dad: GET AN RPG, MAN
Me: What sort of military action is this, honestly? Ground to air weaponry, god.
Me and Dad: *miss entire first five minutes of plot yelling tactical advice at the screen*

Danny: *appears*
Me: DANNY!
Dad: *suspiciously* I thought this was the first episode? Why are you already so happy to see him?
Me: I have heard... things.
Dad: I'm not going to ask.

(My mental process for the next five minutes OMG FANDOM YOU WERE NOT ACTUALLY EXAGGERATING FOR ONCE OMG MARRIEDMARRIEDMAAAAAAAARRIED)

Dad: Did people say, Lal, you will like this show, people use bickering with each other as a primary method of communication?
Me: They know me well.

Dad: So, wait, whatshisface...
Me: Who, Steve?
Dad: Yeah, that guy.
Me: SERIOUSLY? You can't remember his name? HIS NAME IS YOUR NAME, STEVE.
Dad: *shrug* so his plan is just to run in by himself?
Me: because Steve is a ninja SEAL, wait, no, a navy SEAL...
Dad: *falls about laughing* A NINJA SEAL. They are the least ninja of creatures. But they are pretty set up for karate chops! *does impression of seal doing karate*
Me: Oh my GOD. They are so not stealth, though.
Dad: And how would they use throwing stars? Hard with flippers...
Me: They could sort of, you know, hold it between them. Like they're clapping? And then launch it forwards *attempts to do an impression of this*
Me and Dad: *miss the next five minutes of plot laughing*

I later told [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith about this on gchat

[livejournal.com profile] novembersmith : now I want an AU where they are all sea creatures

Danny as an otter

Chin and Kono as dolphins

FIGHTING CRIME

me: HEEEEEEE

[livejournal.com profile] novembersmith : NINJA SEAL ACTION

me: Danny is like, I AM A LAND ANIMAL, OKAY

I AM HERE UNDER ~DURESS

[livejournal.com profile] novembersmith : :D :D :D

And then I told <[livejournal.com profile] kaiserkuchen about THAT and she was like TINY BABY OTTER GRACE! EVIL SHARKS!

This was the day after we'd stayed up until like, 4am watching The Superbowl. Our verdict - Too much stopping. Stupid trousers. SO MUCH STOPPING, OMG, STOP STOPPING. People with English accents should not pronounce it DEfence.

Anyway, my Dad and I also left the house now and then. We went to our favourite Italian restaurant, where the food is great, the coffee even better and at least one of us always gets hit on by at least one member of staff.

We went to town and went computer games and shoe shopping.

Me: *goes into fifth shoe shop* This is the price you pay for having one child and that child being a daughter.
Dad: I like shoes. Also I use this information in conversation. It impresses the ladies.
Me: Oh my god<.

Then we went on a day out to York. It was fun, and we made a lot of Terry Pratchett jokes and were suitably horrified by the price of things. We also went to the National Railway Museum, because we are super cool.

The National Railway Museum is HUGE and contains many actual trains. Lots of steam trains, which I went into paroxyms of glee over the insides of because I am writing a steampunk fic and the insides of steam trains look JUST LIKE how I imagine my engine room. There were so many cogs, you guys. SO MANY COGS *_*

I am tempted to just forego all description and link to these pictures. I'm sure my betas would be totally okay with that *g*

So yeah, I had a great time and now you know where I get it from! Also, Dad, if you're reading this, you still owe me Christmas present. Just saying.

I'm like, well, I don't have anything much to say to LJ, and yet I want to update. Huh. And then I remembered that, this being my journal and all, I can do as I wish!

I have google analytics and I find it compulsively fascinating. Did y'all know that if you have a paid LJ account you can set up google analytics on it? Because I didn't until my corner of Inception fandom all seemed to discover it at once. It's SO COOL, OH MY GOD. There is stuff I'm not surprised by (that the entry that gets most hits is Say I'm The Only Bee In Your Bonnet, for example) but there is a lot of stuff I have discovered.

a) That the disparity between the number of people who read a fic and the number of people who comment is even bigger than I thought. I mean, I'm awful at commenting so I can't talk. It's so cool knowing that lots of people are reading my stories, though. I extend my blanket affection to you, lurkers, seeing as I can't thank you in a comment reply. Just to give you an idea of what I mean, SITOBIYB, which I wrote FOUR MONTHS AGO, HOLY CRAP, still got 89 pageviews last week. No comments!

Which is sort of related to

b) How much traffic I owe [livejournal.com profile] bookshop and [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine . Reccing really works, you guys. Also <3DELCIOUS<3

c) Live search is terrible. I mean, I already had my suspicions about this but really. One of the things that you can do with google analytics is see what search terms people used to get to your journal. Oh, the hilarity! But yes, all the people wo stumble here searching for things completely unrelated to my journal or things that have been mentioned once (Rhys Ifans, anyone?) have all come from Live Search. I mean, one person landed up here after just searching the word "meme". I MEAN WHAT. I don't even know how many pages you'd have to go through on google before you got to me from that. My keyword searches are not anywhere near as terrible and amazing as [livejournal.com profile] cherrybina 's though ("rimming the pink sock" is a personal favourite) but they do amuse me. Also, one person searched for "laliandra" but clicked straight away from this journal. As far as I can tell, I made this name up and I'm the only one out here. So. What were they looking for?

d) I can spend about ten minutes looking at the really in depth statistics before I get really freaked out about how GOOGLE SEES ALL. O_O.

2. In "Delightful Things My Friends From The Internet Have Brought Me This Week"

Twitter Hashtag of the Week - #fishpile - referring to the mass tackle glompingsnugglehug affection of the marmalade_fish . There is always a #fishpile going on. The mood and location may change, but the pile is perpetual. Mass second place to [livejournal.com profile] mcollinknight and her Darren Criss tags of WIN.

Text Message of the Week -  "Do you know where the Charlie Brooker RPF is?" That was the whole thing! Best. Ever.

Unintentional IM Typo of The Week - [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact for "hunky-dorky" . I plan to use this ALL THE TIME. So adorable!

Best Email Subject Line - "lol porn"

3. In "Things My Dad brought me because he is going to Sout Africa indefinitely"

a) His old laptop which is about a hundred times faster than mine and I am very fond of already. It is the same make as my beloved but o so broken Precious, so I already know my way around and it means I can have all my things in one place \o/ The only issue is that the "h" key sometimes doesn't work so I see a lot of "te"s in my future.

b) Food that my Granny and Great Aunt won't eat because they are diabetic: 2 boxes of chocolates, 2 boxes of biscuits, half a packet of mini eggs, a candy cane, a sherbet lollipop.

c) A selection of bead necklaces and scarves from Granny because I once asked her if she had any in the charity shop that she works in and now she appears to hoard every one that they get. I am okay with this, especially because I've got a fabulous multicoloured ribbon and bead necklace and a bottle green pashmina, among other things. There are a couple that I am not so fond of so if anyone is after a thin scarf or bright string of beads, let me know.

d) My old collection of paper dolls. I'm not really sure what to do with them but they are so pretty, OMG. PAPER DOLLS FOREVER.

4. In "Seriously people, JFGI

YOU GUYS, PODFIC IS AMAZING. IF YOU WANT TO FIND SOME, GOOGLE THE WORD "PODFIC", CLICK ON THE ~FIRST LINK, PROFIT. If you want recs, ask! Otherwise *points upwards*

5. In "Things I Didn't Expect To Write This Week"
1000 words of comment fic about beaches and people expressing affection by throwing things at each other. Well. I possibly should have seen the last one coming.

473 words of the fic I've been writing for the last year-and-a-bit.

So, there we are! How are you guys? Well? How are tricks? Tricky?
laliandra: (history)
This is such a self indulgent post, really, but my brain feels all implodey. I'm still getting over a throat infection and I slept on my friend's floor last night, which is the first bit on context you need. And Leeds train station was covered in posters for the Hush Hush sequel (the book that [livejournal.com profile] altogetherisi and I find more upsetting than Twilight. Really. What Aja (and awesome linkees) said, only with considerably more swearing. My hatred is endless) which made me full of violent thoughts. All in all, everything is a bit strange and vague with sleep and rage right now.

Mostly, though, my brain is being eaten alive by it being all WIPs, all the time...

So, this is what the inside of my head looks like...

Inception (Just in case you hadn't worked out that this fandom has eaten my brain or were worrying about running out of fic *g*)
ExpandOh, so very many (dangerous) ideas )

*cries* Steampunk AI AU which has been a WIP for *mumblemumble* months. Years. Lifetimes.
ExpandI can practically write this part from memory )

500 words of Summer fics
ExpandYes, yes, I know, not summer anymore )

Sigh. And those are only the ones that have a googledoc of their very own. I hope y'all are doing well! Feel free to commiserate or just say hi or whatever. It's all groovy <3
