Exciting things that have happened today.

1. Chapter 1 of The Demon's Lexicon is up! No, wait !!! The Demon's Lexicon, Chapter One: Ravens in the Kitchen . And it's good. Really good actually. And another awesome thing is that thanks to the wonder that is LiveJournal I got to tell Sarah what I thought, which made her pleased and I got my questions answered and the happiness of feeling all engaged in a writer/reader dialogue.

2. [profile] ladyjaida has posted saying that there will be two more books in the universe of Havemercy, a book I adored extraordinarily much. And that one of them may involve the post HM travels of two of the characters who set off for adventures at the end of the book.

3. I have confirmed visitors this weekend and the weekend after, people from homehome, like people I went to school with who I haven't spent lots of time with in aaages. And me and Mal will be able to do our usual great swop of fantasy and other cool books, so I can introduce him to HM as well. And then me and Cat and Li will be able to go chat about all the crazy times of our youth and go dancing. (incidentally coming up with pseudonyms for my friends on this blog is another thing I enjoy waaay too much. There is serious thought and reasoning behind them that only I will ever know!)

4. I found the finishing touch to my Dad's parcel of birthday things. Its a Nelson Mandela finger puppet/magnet. My housemates were torn between utter shock and hysterical laughter when they saw it, which is of course the reaction I look for in a parental gift.

5. One of my seminars got cancelled so I came home and wrote and wrote. I have massively re wrtten some of the long fic, started a drabble for my community, done some plotting for a vague thing of my own and may possibly have written a little Harry/Draco steampunk thing.

Lal is a happy little geek today...

I know! They were in the uni bookshop and saw it and had to have it. They had all types of famous people ass finger puppets. I've been trying to think who would appreciate a Shakespeare or a Freud one!

Seriously, I just want to go through my convoluted thought process in coming up with the names...

I am so excited. So far so brilliant! More exclamation marks!!!

ps. Have rumours of your future husband's marriage to someone else been wildly exaggerated? (Mistful taught me to italicise...)

Lol, I totally misread that sentence. What an extra 's' can add...

(PS I WOULD. Jokes)

I believe they have, since Yahoo answers tells me he is still Magnificently Single (mistful taught me to Capitalise Accordingly - or was that Jaida?).

That? Is why I shouldn't write comments at like 2 in the morning... It would not be so bad if they weren't puppets... I'm sure Freud would have a lot to say about that...

And hey, Christmas approaches and the puppets are on sale. Of all the famous figures in the world which would you most like as a finger puppet?

That is a great relief. How cruel to taunt you like that!

Haha, I'm sure he would. The fact that they are finger puppets makes it all the more hilarious.

Shakespeare is my homeboy, but don't worry about it, postage is ridiculously expensive...

I know! My constitution is entirely too delicate... it was quite the shock.

I know! June next year is going to be a Month of Awesome! And also a month where I spend much money in bookshops, but what can you do... *is gleeful*

And yes, the naming is more fun than it should be. Can I ask why you picked Anna?
xx

I love Anna and wanted to find a way to name one of my daughters some derivative of Anne or Anna. Anne is a family name. We are Swedish and Welsh, and the Swedish side suggested Annika. I LOVE Annika! But none of the girls really looked like an Annika (except the middle one a little, Nelly). The third daughter came out with red hair, looking more Welsh, so we gave her a very Welsh rl name. I don't have an lj name for her yet...working on it. Her rl name starts with a B and I don't like many names starting with a B. Maybe I'll find another welsh name for her lj name. Suggestions? Gwyneth?

Anyway, so I always liked Anna. And Anna works in many different countries--it doesn't sound particularly American.

My eldest goes by "Greta" on lj because it is actually a little similar to her rl name, and because I also love all derivations of Margaret/Margretta/Greta/Marguerite/Margarita etc. Margaret/Maggie was also almost a rl name of one of the girls. And I love Sound of Music and Greta is 5 (like my daughter).

The middle child goes by Nelly--for no reason other than that it is similar to her RL name. I don't really like or have feelings for "Nelly," but it worked in that moment.

Sam's name is also somewhat similar to his rl name. The name "Sam" connotes strength and laid backness and also a little bit of an "old soul" feeling. So yeah.

"Maria" got her lj name because of the Sound of Music. Also, her rl name has 3 syllables too. She's not really a "Maria," but it worked.

How did you pick your names??

Love, Anna

I swear I've started this reply about 4 times and something always somes up right in the middle!

Anna is a lovely name, I really like your reasoning. Swedish and Welsh. that's some combination! There are so many pretty welsh names, Meagan, Rhiannon and Eleri (pronounced E- LAIR-i) and Bethan.

Greta like from the Sound of Music. That is awesome. I loved that movie so much, still do really. I went to Salzburg in the summer and spent the whole day is feverish excitement and singing under my breath...

My LJ name is a combination of a nickname I had when I was younger and my full name. I think it's pretty easy to work out, but I kinda like having a pseudonym. It's pretty unique too, which helps. And I didn't want anything too different from my namename as I thought I would get confused!

My housemates all have LJ names now, Sal because in RL me and her have names that sound almost identical.

Belle beaucse its part of her name and she reminds me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Wren because it's my nickname for her, it rhymes with her name.

My friend Mal mentioned in this post has a good solid one syllable nme in real life, and there is a character on a tv show we both like called Mal so I thought he would apprciate it!

Li is part of my friends real name, but she goes by her middle name in Rl so no one knows that, and Cat because it's similar to her real name and we dressed up as cats last Halloween.

I think names are so important, naming characters is the hardest part of writing fiction I think, because names have so many associations.

Harry/Draco yayness! You going to post it/a link to it on here?

Also, about the finger puppet: I WANT. (Unrelated, but I heard about someone owning a Margaret Thatcher-shaped candle. You could slowly watch her melt away...)

I will post it here as soon as I type it up and sort it out a bit. I've not really written h/d before but I was linked to this picture -

and I couldn't resist...

The finger puppets were cool but bizarre. I want the whole set now, they had many famous figures.

That candle = bizarre but cool also! I love stuff like that.
