So.

2010.

I was trying to sum it up the other day for Kara, actually, and what I ended up saying was this. The highs were very high, but the lows were really, really low. And in between them there were vast periods that felt like an exercise in survival. If I can just make to the end of the month, make it to the weekend, through this one time. So, yeah. I moved in with my boyfriend and I lost my job. I started writing again in a fandom I love and I was so poor I walked for an hour across town with half of my possessions because I couldn't afford the bus. I got to spend a movie montage perfect week with my best friend and I had to sit helpless on the other side of world while someone I loved was hurting.

I enjoyed all of your company for 2010, and I love you all so much. I have really great memories of 2010 thanks to you, and I hope we get to make many, many more.

In the spirit of the thing, here are some memes! That I totally stole from [livejournal.com profile] mcollinknight (sorry about the sprinkles!)

First sentences of 2010:

January: Happy 2010! I had a most excellent New Year's Eve. It involved homemade hats and glitter glue, chocolate fondue, champagne cocktails from the roaring twenties, Nat making friends with a baby, much Inappropriateness and Innuendo("Is Ivy's flange warm?") and The Hat Game, Scattergories and The Humming Game.
February: I went to South Africa and as promised, bring back tales of Adventure. And I even managed not to cause any kind of international crisis (aren't you proud of me [livejournal.com profile] mathsnerd ?), though not through lack of trying...
March:  I have been distracted by work (which, that's a whoe other post) and going to the ballet (<3) and not being able to shake this damn cough (When you sound like Satine at the end of Moulin Rouge, it's never a good sign) and doing edits and then Word losing 13 pages of them (*shakes fist*). Huh, actually, when I put it all down, it's been more than a bit of a week. But life goes on, and so must this meme.
April: So! I am 23. It feels much as 22, only less symmetrical.
May: Hey you guys! Not dead, or time travelling. Just faily.
June:
So I have been woefully sick for the last few days. It has been most unpleasant and I have been living in a cave of pillows and listening to this weekend's cricket commentary and tennis. The sound of other people excelling at sport is soothing to me!
July:
Still not dead!
August:
So, I have this temping job and it's kind of soul crushingly, brain atrophyingly dull
September:
Currently, I spend a deal of time sitting on trains marvelling at the weather and so, as I told twitter, I want to write all the sunshine filled stories in the world. Colline instructed me to write and I can't really say no to her charming Canadian vowels.
October:
I keep thinking about making a real, honest to God post. I am also thinking about some sort of Intro/Masterlist post thing because, hi new people! I'm still trying to work out what people need to know about me. Suggestions?
November: Oh, god, I haven't posted in forever and a day. Or, like, three weeks but whatever. The internet moves at the speed of light and all.
December: This weekend Nat and I went to that there Londontown to catch up with old friends aplenty. There was a concerning few days midweek when the snow got so bad that I got sent home from work and sat in the car with a co-worker (my favourite co-worker and not just because she agreed to drive me most of the way home) and we couldn't see anything beyond the front of the car bonnet. Which was a little alarming, to say the least!

LET ME JUST SAY, I AM UNSURPRISED THAT MANY OF MY ENTRIES START WITH AN APOLOGY.

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

Bought furniture. Started a bookclub. Wrote porn (sort of!). Used twitter. Played one chord of the ukelele. Booked tickets to America. Saw a 3D movie. Shared clothes with my cousin. Saw England win the Ashes in Australia. Had a double date. Went to a gig in London. Told someone I loved them every day.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I didn't make any. This year I have some goals which can basically be summed up with "Self, I dare you to do better. Dream a little bigger, darling". Because I am the dorkiest.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope!

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No, but people I am close to did

5. What countries did you visit?

South Africa and the Isle of Man.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

A steady job. A less groaning folder of WIPs. A STEADY JOB, OH GOD. Money.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

11/07/2010 because that's the day I got to hug [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Anything bad?

I got a vomiting bug and an ear infection and the flu. I don't think I've ever been so sick in one year. But at least all the flu meds that I took gave me the courage to go into a chatroom full of people I didn't really know.

11. What were the best things you bought?

My black jeans and my MP3 player Geoff Vader. Every coach or train ticket to meet-ups.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

The England cricket team! Everyone who has been graceful and helpful and lovely in the face of adversity.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

The England football team. Sarah Palin (as per). Jacob Zuma. Becca Fitzpatrick. Co-worker Dick.

Adam Lambert - Whatdeya Want From Me (for concertimes with Isi, fandomtimes and dancing in supermarket aisles)

Bishop Allen - True (for mixtapes and for making geeky friends at work)

MCR - Nanananfinityna (for mystery, excitement and interpretive dance)

K'naan - Wavin' Flagg  (for the red dirt that runs in my veins)

Rhianna - Only Girl In The World (not that I especially like it, but it comes on at 3 times a week in the car after work)

They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse In Your Soul (well DUH)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Writing. Cleaning. Dancing. Keeping it touch.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Working. Falling asleep on public transport

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

A good job. Woe.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?

On weekdays, Ariadne, on weekends, a Killjoy.

34. What kept you sane?

[livejournal.com profile] bookshop 's delicious page. Complaining to Twitter. My notebook. Nat. Nat's stupid jokes. My best girls. VOICE LETTERS.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

The election, I guess?

37. Who did you miss?

My university friends.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

I think I met [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact in 2009 but I feel we really met this year. Also, everyone I've met in Inception fandom. Y'all are so nice. Even though I mostly just lurk creepily. Hmm, maybe that should be my resolution. Friend all the people I think are awesome as opposed to looking on yearningly.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:

You'll be happier if you're true to yourself, even if blending in seems easier at the time.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Heartsick we nursed along the way we picked up
You may not see it when it's sticking to your skin
But we're better off for all that we let in

1. Your main fandom of the year?

Did you guess Inception?! DID YOU? Many points to yooou

4. Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?

My favourite albums were probably

My mix CDs from [livejournal.com profile] miabee023

The Ladykiller by Cee-lo Green - his voice is so sexxxxxy, you guys. I just want to roll around in it foreverrrrr. Special love for, of course, Forget You and Old Fashioned.

Serotonin by Mystery Jets - My love for this band is well documented and I was so excited for this album and boy, it did not disappoint. I must have listened to it a hundred times. Pretty much everything I've written this year has been at least partly to this album. Flash A Hungry Smile is SUCH an Eames song as well as being charming and weird and awesome, Alice Springs is wonderful and cool, Too Late is wistful and creepy.

Far by Regina Spektor - which is old but which I spent about a week at work listening to nothing else.

6. Your favourite LJ community of the year?

[livejournal.com profile] inception_kink ? I have spent many a happy hour there, it's true. [livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada is actually a journal but it IS a community and I love it. As ever, the [livejournal.com profile] marmalade_fish  have my heart.

7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

the existence of "fuckyeah" tumblrs

8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?

That The Wank Came to Inception fandom in a really destructive way. Glee made me frustrated as often as it made me happy.

9. Your TV boyfriend of the year?

Matt Smith/11

10. Your TV girlfriend of the year?

Elizabeth Burke :D

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?

Umm. Comments from people I fangirl. When we got let into Heaven. Coming out of The Deathly Hallows.

12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
RBR and Fakenews.

13. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?

I guess maybe Glee, or Sherlock, or I have heard good things about H50. I HAVE NO TIIIIME, INCEPTIONING.

14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?

Inception Big Bang! Which sadly I have had to drop out of but still. New albums from Idol peeps? Glee being more about the awesome that is Darren Criss and Chris Colfer. THE DEMON'S SURRENDER. Also, marmfish mansion!

AWWWWW YOU LIKED MY MIX CDS. Seeing as how apparently fanmixes are my new favorite hobby, I'm exceptionally glad to hear it.

And where are you going to be in America?! (Or should I say, Amurrrica, if we are going by the pronunciations of Wild West movies... or by the attempted American accent of most Britons, apparently. (ALAN CUMMING'S ATTEMPTS AT PORTRAYING EDDIE MALONE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES IN BEHEMOTH STILL MAKE ME LOL, OKAY? I'M SORRY.)) That is super exciting and I'm sure you looking forward to it like crazy. (Perhaps as excited as I am for hopefully getting to England again in a year's time, fingers crossed.)

I actually did read everything but there was a lot of it, so let me sum up as well by just saying - I hope things go much better for you this year, and it seems like you're off to a pretty good start. (Especially with the not-suddenly-having-a-baby-for-no-rhyme-or-reason plan. Sounds like a winner.)

I genuinely LOVE them. I listen to my birthday mix all the time at work, it never fails to put me in a better mood. You're very good at it :D. Even my boyfriend, the music snob, agrees.

I am going to New York and then Boston \o/ I'm staying with my friend Kara for a week in Manhattan and then we are off to meet other internetly people for a fandom convention in Boston! And then it is my birthday! To say that I'm excited about this would be somewhat of an understatement.

Oo, England trips! Exciting!

I hadn't realised just how much of a terrible GIANT post it was because I wrote it in many stages so, yes, well done you for getting to the end, frankly! (I am also liking this plan! I feel it has merit)

From: [identity profile] miabee023.livejournal.com
Well, I'm very flattered!

That sounds incredibly fun! I've never been to New York, and when we went to Boston, it was in the middle of a heat wave and all we did was go look at historical buildings (not very interesting when you're ten years old), so I'm sure you will have a much better time there than I did. And of course, having your birthday in another country is always an interesting and fun experience!

EEEEEEEE. :D MEMES!

"Glee being more about the awesome that is Darren Criss and Chris Colfer."

THIS. Also: Demon's Surrender OMG YES. I can't believe it's been so long since Demon's Covenant. Also: "You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling", right? I'm sure 2011 will be awesome for you! (It'd better be!)

ALSO LAL. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW YOU DO IT BUT EVERY FRIGGING POST OF YOURS MAKES ME WANT TO GO READ INCEPTION FIC. AT ONCE. BADLY. GNAH. This is steadily getting worse, and I think I should totally blame you for it! (I have a hunch (don't ask me how long it took me to get that word right... aaarrgh English be good, alright? Don't go all second language on me!) that you wouldn't be all that unhappy about that. But just for good measure: I TOTALLY BLAME YOU, LAL. (And I have to renew my paid account and fill all the icon slots with Inception icons, too.)

LOOOOOVE (& blame!). ♥

I LOVE MEMES!

YESSSSS the cookies are making me so desperate for the book. Also, yes, my NYRs are a quote from Star Trek and a quote from Inception. Like I said, the dorkiest. I hope that you are right!

YES I AM TOTALLY GOING TO COUNT THIS AS A WIN. I think, no, I know, that I have read over a thousand fics in this fandom so, yeah, I know how you feel. Mmmm, nice use of the word hunch, there. I TAKE THIS BLAME AND DELIGHT IN IT <3

ME TOO.

I am avoiding the cookies (oh, it is always such a struggle!) because a) I kind of hate spoilers of any kind and b) what you say. But I'm reeeeally really excited anyway!

I KNEW YOU WOULD, BAD PERSON THAT YOU ARE. I have not read as many fics as you have yet (I have read yours of course, but I have not properly SQUEEEEEEEEEEEED about it yet!), but I'm working on it. :D Hunch, btw. I love this word. And last night, I was typing "I have a little notch", and then I was all, "hang on, that isn't right", and then it took me five minutes to figure out the right word. I was about to listen to the RENT song where Collins uses it when it came to me. :D Um, but that's all just a boring aside, sorry? :/

I miss my blaming lal icon. I definitely have to renew my paid account. :D

I am far too weak willed. I'm hopeless. There is NO HOPE FOR ME.

Well, I have been reading Inception fic for a good while now so I have a head start. I think reading Inception fic only enriches one's life so I am NOT EVIL. But even if that makes me evil, I am okay with that!

Nono, I love linguistic asides :D They are my favourite sort. Yay you have read my fics! They are mostly ridic but I do hope that you liked them.

I miss it too. It made me feel very special and blamed *g*

Omnomnom memes. It's not that I dislike it, it's just that I felt weird about putting as a Song of the Year, lol.

Yay, I am pleased that you enjoyed my references. I suspect that you are one of the few who actually has some idea of what those entail :D I would LOVE some trippy accessories! You know me. Lal!!! I have not NOT dropped off the face of Lal's lj life. I HAVE NOT. i just...haven't been in good contact. I am so sorry!!!!

I wish I could go to Boston and meet you. You'll have fun. It is like this super secret slashy con that tbh that the insiders in bandom all know about.

I loved getting a card from you. You are my only fandom friend who I allow cards from. It's a holdover from when I needed something concrete about this while fandom world. Thank you.

And omg, I actualfax helped Rave with a fic. Today. My life has MEANING. I emotional!beta'd a Rave fic. YEP. She has my (fandom) email address and everything!!! Such an odd sensation, getting fic from my fandom idol BEFORE THE MASSES because I might be able to HELP MAKE IT BETTER.

So I immediately reread the library Fabian/Caradoc Remus scene from SBP where Remus over hears them and it's like: "Remus has never touched anyone like that in his life. He wants to." Or something. MY HEART.

that's all for now. xoxo and love for another year.

Hey Anners! I'm so glad that you remained on the face of the earth <3 I have been a slightly faily updater and commenter too of late, don't worry about it.

OMG that is so cool! Go you! I lovelovelove being a beta or cheerleader. It's so great. I looked over one friend's piece of art recently and it's getting loads of amazing comments and I am so delighted every time. It's like being part of a creative process.
