It's a Love In!
Mar. 3rd, 2009 07:55 pmI'm feeling all bouncy and happy and shiny at the moment, not least because
I WON A COMPETITION FOR A COPY OF SARAH REES BRENNAN'S BOOK! WITH MY SLOGANING SKILLZ!
Look!
And so soon I will have an ARC and a tee shirt and I'm feeling all loved up for some RL reasons which I won't bore you with because I sicken even myself, and because I've been writing lots of romantic scenes, some with kissing in the rain and so I bring you love songs!
Now, there are a LOT of love songs about, and many of them are awful. Or sugary. Or obvious. I am a picky person and I like my romance understated and/or different. Or just plain gorgeous. So, here are some songs I love, click them, take them, as a token of my esteem!
1. Made-Up Lovesong #43 by Guillemots - Really cute, not too overdone, and about making the ordinary extraordinary, which is what love is, really.
2. I hear a symphony by The Supremes - I love The Supremes to death, and I love the idea of hearing music in your head when you see that certain someone.
3. Maybe I'm Amazed by Jem - Its simple and lovely and I feel like that girl so often, completely overwhelmed and delighted by love.
4. Friday I'm in Love by The Cure - You just cannot not be happy when you listen to this. Dance around the room!
5. I love You by The Pipettes - short and sweet, but very realistic.
6. For Once in my Life by Stevie Wonder - What's not to love? Great song, great singer, great big smiles all round.
7. Lottery Winners on Acid by The Crimea - Super quirky and adorable with twinkly guitars and bells and the best metaphor ever. Love makes you crazy.
8. L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole - Almost the ultimate. I don't want love like you see in the movies, I want love from a Big Band song...
9. For Lovers by Wolfman featuring Pete Doherty - I don't really know why I love this. I think its because it mentions trains, which I find inexplicably romantic.
10. Young Love by The Mystery Jets - I am so in love with the Mystery Jets it hurts.
Maybe next I will do favourite romantic scenes, or Great Kisses, or something... What say you, lovely flist?
So, tell me your favourite Love Songs. Or romantic scene. Something to make us all smile!
Oh, and the thing I said about my friends. I take it back. It has become apparent that I am the only sane one amongst them. On facebook we have an attempt by Lil to organise a get-together at hers -
Lil: we dont have house mates so its all cool, plus theres a very big field at the back so Dan can run around naked in if he so wishes(i have heard he likes too do this?)
Mal: 10/10 would read again
Lil: ???
Mal: Indeed. Although i may be tram driving with Newbie so sooner in june is better for me.
Onward - to Victory
Dan: I like the sound of naked frolicking in your field
Lil: We have two showers you can wash you hair here doofus
Rhys: Yeah but when Raff showers he often just wanders around naked afterwards, so unless you want to have a naked Dan and a naked raff (which will of course create the phenomenon known only as the naked Mal, often followed by the naked raffdanmal wrestling match) then its probably best to let raff shower at home....
Lal : Well there's a mental picture I didn't need
Dan: need no, want yes.
ETA: Newbie: can we make bets?

Date: 2009-03-04 03:00 am (UTC)I actually wrote about the RL stuff in the post and then realised 1. it was kind of soppy and that would probably annoy people and make them roll their eyes and me and 2. that really, it was so soppy it made me want to roll my eyes at myself... I am a horrible hypocrite!

Date: 2009-03-04 10:28 am (UTC)(Btdubs - I tried to download some of the music you posted, but unfortunately, if something is an m4p, it doesn't work (it needs authorization), so... that would be 1, 4, 7, and 10. Just so you know.)

Date: 2009-03-04 12:02 pm (UTC)Thank you for running it, it was such a fun contest.
YAY!

Date: 2009-03-04 12:07 pm (UTC)They are silly boys, but very amusing, its true. Dan just replied with "in raffdanmal wrestling we all win" and Lil said "but the rest of us bear the mental scars for life!"
Damn. I could message you the necessary password if you would like and promise to use only for the powers of good?

Date: 2009-03-04 12:21 pm (UTC)And if you wouldn't mind doing such a thing, I would really appreciate it. (Kind of lacking on the new music here. You could say that this just means I should go out and get into popular Italian music or something, but, the thing is, I really don't like popular Italian music. Like, at all. Which complicates things.) And yes, I would definitely promise only to use it for the powers of good.
(By the way, it's so strange for me getting an email (well, comment alert) in the middle of the day - you're the only person I know who's anywhere near my same time zone! I just... never really thought about it much before now.)

Date: 2009-03-04 02:38 pm (UTC)Will do! Egh, europop, drove me up the wall in France. There were a few nice songs but mostly, eugh. And those songs are some of my favourites, or at least by bands that I really like a lot of their other stuff. It is my life goal to make everyone fall for the Mystery Jets!
Time zones baffle me more than they should...

Date: 2009-03-04 02:38 pm (UTC)'You Belong to me' by Kate Rusby.
'Get Lost' by Patrick Wolf is also excellent in a far more cheery way but I couldn't find a decent video of it.

Date: 2009-03-04 03:57 pm (UTC)And the Kate Rusby song is so pretty!

Date: 2009-03-04 04:00 pm (UTC)Thank you so much for the password! I will be burning a cd of those right away-- well, just as soon as I finish watching a bootleg Disney movie online. (Still can't decide which one. The debate is ongoing, though hopefully will be resolved within, say, the next five minutes.) My host family has no Disney movies, alright? This is another issue, one for which the internet is very convenient when it comes to solving.
(And when and for how long were you in France, exactly?)

Date: 2009-03-04 04:30 pm (UTC)No problem. And a life without Disney?! Terrible. The internet is great and glorious in its bounty.
I was in Nantes, on the west coast of France, from the end of September to the end of May last year. I wrote a post about it http://laliandra.livejournal.com/3224.html#cutid1. I really enjoyed it but it was tough at times. I was teaching French students English, which was entertaining to say the least.

Date: 2009-03-04 06:25 pm (UTC)Okay, read your post and OH MY GOD MECHANICAL TREE. Obviously, I must get to Nantes at some point, since this is a wonder I must witness or my life will never be complete. And... teaching English. Good grief, the kids here can't even pronounce my name correctly (they give it two n's instead of one, a small detail, but significant after six months of having your name mispronounced at you), I don't know if my teacher-y patience would stretch far enough to actually teach them conversational skills.
Oh, and I got one of the songs to work on iTunes using the password you sent (Young Love) but it said your five computers have now been maxed out and... seeing as how that's kind of important (since iTunes is obnoxious and puts these limits on all their music and such), I was wondering if you're still okay with me inducting all the other songs into the iTunes library here as well, or if you'd rather I didn't. I don't mind at all if you say no, since I would totally understand why you would want to conserve these, if, say, you had to buy another computer and transfer them or whatnot. Just give me the word as to what you'd prefer!

Date: 2009-03-05 12:39 pm (UTC)I know! I just love the fact that someone somewhere thought this all up! And then got people to give them money for t. Incredible. It will only be done in 2011 though :(. Yeah, teaching made me realise that I really, really don't want to become a teacher. I had one totally awesome class who used to chat lots and brought in cake and bought me a present. And they always used to call me my RL equivelent of Laliandra not Lal. Which took some getting used to.
I think if you have unlocked one song on the computer it unlocks thjem all, regardless. But thank you for the heads up! Apparently they plan to get rid of the restictions soon. Steve Jobbs said so...

Date: 2009-03-05 02:34 pm (UTC)Well, thank you again for the music! I have already fallen madly in love with the Mystery Jets song, so yes, you won me over quite quickly for that band. (If only I was at home, so I could actually buy the cd off Amazon, instead of having to make do with whatever I can find on YouTube. Oh well - one more thing to happily anticipate upon my return in four months.)

Date: 2009-03-05 09:51 pm (UTC)And I am very, very happy that you're feeling loved. &hearts I wish you would share some of that scenes you wrote,
especially when they involve kissing in the rain. I am in desperate need of romantic. ^^ As for my favourite one, I must think about it. It is probably very embarrassing. But right now I'm making my world a bit better and rereading all the Merlin fics... this is the most incoherent comment. Really, just congratulations again. :)

Date: 2009-03-05 11:33 pm (UTC)it kind of borders on RPSI wrote it for a comm... But I'm really kind of proud of it, and kind of want to share it. I am torn!Oh I LOVE 3 tasks! It took me a while to get into but, my god, it builds to a pretty fabulous end. I'm assuming you've read Drastically Redefining Protocol? It is superb
Thank you! Also, I enjoy it when people are rambly.

Date: 2009-03-08 01:53 am (UTC)Thank you! I was completely shocked, then bounced around the house for the rest of the day. The thought of people wondering around with my slogan, it makes me strangely happy! It is up on the store now!!!
"Wacky" is certainly one way of putting it. Certifiable is another. Never fear, its a message thread, not on walls or anything. It has gone rapidly downhill. Seriously. I've had to designate a Naughty Corner.
