laliandra: (moulinrouge!)

Things that have made me smile, and also get a little teary this week. I swear to god , I never used to be so susceptible to things. I didn't cry at Bambi or Titanic or The Lion King... But now I find myself getting all misty eyed over Happy Things. Is it age?!

I'm using my Moulin Rouge! icon because I love that movie, but the ending always makes me cry buckets...

This - Just, this. Because it's an eloquent and measured response to prejudice. Because it says so much about so many things, because it's true, marriage is family, and that goes deeper than anything.

Coming down to our kitchen each morning to see the poster of Grant Park and the newspaper cover from the day after the elections. It is the Guadian, it's red and in the centre it just says "Wow!"

My bf (who I am LJ naming Nat), on the phone from Australia, being quiet so I could listen to the sound of the sea.

Stealing Harry by Sam_Storyteller/Copperbadge. I was directed to him for Dr Who stuff and found this amazing Remus/Sirius AU. I am so in love with it. *takes a deep breath* it may nearly be as good as SBP. I am not kidding. Tis here - http://sam-storyteller.livejournal.com/2005/07/07/

Children In Need. Once a year in Britain we have a huge fundraiser for children's charities, hospices etc. People do sponsered things and there are special products and then on the Frieday night there is an al night program on the BBC. And this year they raised 20 million pounds on the night. We're pretty much officiallly in a recession over here, and people sill managed to give £20,000,000. It makes me feel better about the world.

And now! A meme!

I can't even remember where I saw this now. I suppose the best way of putting it would be - what do you guys think of, when you think of me?
What do you think I look like, or who?
If you tell me, I will tell you what I think of when I see your name.

And of you are very good I might post a picture of what I actually look like!

I think this is intriguing because I know you all but have no idea what most of you look like. And it would be interesting to know what impression you have of me.

The cover of the Guardian that day was amazing. And it was especially amazing because when Bush got re-elected, the front page had been all in black and in the centre was written 'Oh God'.

I love that essay on 'What Marriage Is', it's beautiful. Oooh, and a link to that fanfic plz?

As to what I think you look like... I imagine you pale and slim and blonde with a very small face, but very tall. Kind of willowy. How close am I?

Now, what do you think I look like?

I saw that entry on marriage, and it was incredibly moving and also incredibly logical and fair to both sides - I loved it.

Hmmm, that's an interesting meme. I really don't know (or I do have a picture in my brain, but I can't describe it very accurately). I think you probably have medium or long hair, I can't picture you with short hair. Like ^^, I kind of picture you 'willowy' as well, though I think you're a redhead or brunette. I don't know, I picture you very pretty because that's just how you seem. Maybe a bit like Isla Fisher? idk, this is hard.

Oh! And you have good/cool/elegant fashion sense. I know this.

Yeah. I love the Guardian and its complete bias!

Damn, I should put a link it. http://sam-storyteller.livejournal.com/2005/07/07/ . There is some pretty amazing other stuff too. And it's written by a guy!

Willowy! I adore you for that. I'm am pretty tall actually.

Um, I think tall too. Dark hair and pale skin and blue eyes. I think this is because your name sounds elvish so I imagine you a bit like Liv Tyler. Close?

It's kinda odd isn't it.

I thought you might have. It was just so well written.

It's really strange isn't it! The bit in bold makes me very happy, so thank you. Not blonde, no. Nor exactly willowy ( biiiig boobs!) Isla Fisher? *googles* Wow! I am extremely flattered by that. Seriously, I love you for that!

Metaquotes is one of my favourite LJ comms, which is where I saw that.

I <3 Isla Fisher (and also you). No problem!

Thanks! I've only ever found a couple of male FF writers... They tend to be pretty good though (wow, a sweeping generalisation there).

Unfortunately, I do not resemble an elf - I'm short and kind of round with dyed red hair. I'm am pale though!

Well, you've already nixed the blonde idea. Not sure what you look like but I love you!

I promise I will read that article--sleepinbeast also linked it and I just haven't made time. God, I just reread Fray's The Price We Pay for Wings [sob] and I am toast for the day. Srsly. Toast. {sobs again]

But that remus/sirius Saving Harry fic. Um. I have never ever seen a fic so highly rec'd before that did less for me as a reader. I know that is harsh!! I followed it and followed it and followed it. People on cult_sbp rec it all the time and I'm always like, "Wut?!?" I just do not see it! Maybe it's 'cause it is so AU that I don't like it? I just didn't like the Remus and didn't think there was a thread from the plot pulling me onward at all. I personally think others like it because we are so ded over what really happens in canon to R and S that we latched onto this AU fantasy. Really, it is horrific that James and Lily are murdered and Sirius is framed and Remus is left with nothing but questions and an aching heart and a sense of betrayal and the little baby goes to live with horrid muggles. It is too painful and maybe that is why R/S fans liked that fic?? You obv. love it. Maybe I just missed it or read it too quickly or something. Sorry! Go on and love it! I love plenty of fic that others don't.

Also, can I post my dvd-commentary on your steampunk story on my lj? I would link peeps to your story and rec it, and then below the cut leave my commentary. I can't imagine you would be opposed to my pimping of your fic but I will wait to hear from you before I do it.

Love, Anna

It's weird that everyone thinks I'm blonde! I was til about age 10 and then it went dark.

I understand. I love that fic. So understated and yet so powerful.

I guess Sam's style isn't for everyone. I personally really like everything he writes, but that's just my opinion. There are some fics that people worship (cassie clare's stuff for example) that I just can't get into. Literature is the most subjective thing ever, so feel free to disagree. It's not really the fact that it has a happy ending, its just all the characters are so much more complex and interesting. The alternate versions of Books 1,2 and 3 are good too.

Sure! Go ahead. More people should read your commentary, for it is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. Pimp away...
