Just write, self. Just write.

Okay, so the posting more thing. That went well! The thing is, I have realised that I only tend to blog when I'm happy, and things have not been great, recently. I got made redundent and I had a series of days whee all I could think was "why do such bad thing happen to such good people?". So, yes. But, I am feeling more positive and thus more like blogging. And you know what this means, a meme! A lovely meme about writing, gakked from
rickey_a . This also seems a good moment to point you in the direction of my Author's page at the Archive of Our Own, which I am slowly but surely filling with nice, cleaned up versions of my fic. All handily stored in one place! For (HINTNUDGEHINT) ease of reading and commenting.
I am also declaring this post a "Ask Me About Writing" post. Just in case you had a question you wanted to ask me about anything I have ever written, or in general about being the horrible cliché of a writer that I am...
What was the last thing you wrote? "“Think I can make it by lunch?” Adam asks. Kris says, “Um,” and then, “Maybe?” and then, “I’d better leave you to it,” because somehow, he can’t think of a single sensible thing to say. "
Was it any good? Well, it's already a fiddled version, but it hasn't been beta-ed yet. K might have something to say about the run on sentence there. I love them. She is less enthusiastic!
What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have? I have a small series of stories about a princess called Pretty Vision who makes cakes and fights witches and teaches ponies stuff. I was about 3, I think, and my Mum wrote them up on her typewriter.
Write poetry? Only of the boomdeyada variety. I fail so hard at poetry.
Angsty poetry? Really. SO HARD. I had to find other outlets for my angst as a teenager.
Favourite genre of writing? Oh gosh, everything? I like writing banter best of all.
Most fun character you ever wrote? Hmm, that's a hard one! I loved writing Luna in my HP days, although it was so difficult. I have fun with most of my darlings, though.
Most annoying character you ever wrote? Ahaha, I'm not sure. I mean, other people are probably annoyed by Stephen, and I wrote Tudor to really piss people off. But I Love them.
How often do you get writer's block? More often than I would like. Or, it's more having trouble getting the words from my head to the page.
How do you fix it? Post-its, making other people yell at me, going for walks, sitting down and writing even if I think I suck...
Write fan fiction? :D, yes.
Do you type or write by hand? Type. I only write by hand if there is no way I can get to computer, on coach trips and such.
Do you save everything you write? I think so, yes.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it? Actually yes. I'm currently fiddling with something that I abandoned aged 16!
What's your favourite thing that you've written? Urk. I don't know. I think maybe my Steampunk fic, which I know is mean because you haven't seen it yet! I do have a massive soft spot for the fic I wrote Jenn, mainly known as The Ninja Polar Bear fic. It was the first longish thing I wrote and it still makes me happy.
What's everyone else's favourite thing that you've written? Oh, definitely Tipping The Balance, certainly in terms of comments. But, I don't know! What's your favourite thing that I have written?
What's your favourite setting for your characters? sunspots, bars, travelling, sitting on the floor (I have just realised how often my characters do that!)
What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will? Horror?
How many writing projects are you working on right now? Oh god. I am actively working on 3, with about another 8 WIPs.
Do you want to write for a living? Yes, actually. It's a pipe dream, but I still want to be author when I grow up...
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper? A few things, on and off, mostly for school.
Have you ever won an award for your writing? Only school things, again.
Ever written something in script or play format? Yes, lots of things! I took drama up to A-level. We wrote a play about Burma. It made people cry.
What are your five favourite words? So, words that I use a stupid amount when writing include "just" and "smile". I like "shimmer" and "bemused" and "cadence"
What character that you've written most resembles yourself? JON. Which is because he is most like Colline and we are brain twins.
Where do you get ideas for your other characters? Oh anywhere and everywhere. I won't pretend I don't steal people I meet in life and put them in my stories.
Do you ever write based on your dreams? Not often. My dreams are cracktastic, a lot of the time. I do like it when I have fandomy dreams though.
Do you favour happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers? I like hopeful endings.
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write? I try, I really do. I just... Commas are hard, okay?!
Does music help you write? Yes, actually. I have a rain playlist for one fic and 80s driving songs for another. And, in a move that I have sadly discovered I share with Stephanie Myer, I used Muse to help me write battle scenes.
Quote something you've written. The first thing to pop into your mind.
Rahm smiles, suddenly, like car headlights flashing through a window at night, unexpected and lighting up the room for just a second.
I just love metaphors, y'all, and I'm still rather proud of this one.
