A Shitty Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum

So, I've been a bit out of contact, I know. This is because RL decided to turn me upside down and inside out and I'm still not sure what's going on. Also, marmfish? My laptop hates Chatzy and won't work if I try and load it. I MISS YOU GUYS!

Basically I applied for a Masters in Applied Translation (French) at Leeds University and they said "Okay, that's fine. You have a place and we will send you your final confirmation when we get your funding confirmed."

So I was pleased and made plans for the next year of my life.

THEN The Isle of Man government didn't send Leeds University anything about my funding so I couldn't get that confirmed and so I couldn't get funding because I didn't have a confirmed place and when I got in contact with Leeds about it last week, they told me that they had given my place away.

THEY GAVE MY PLACE AWAY AND DIDN'T TELL ME.

So. Yeah. Then there was a lot of yelling and crying, and the uni were both unapologetic and unhelpful. And there's nothing I can do, except try not to freak out.

So, that has been my life, of late. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, so please don't ask. It's all rather up in the air, but rest assured I'll keep you posted.

I am trying, now, though to focus on Reasons To Be Cheerful.

Everyone I know has been marvellous, my new housemate Elliot bought me takeaway pizza and ice cream and watched 10 Things I Hate About You and Get Over It with Me (yay adaptations of Shakespeare into a teen format!), because even though he is a straight boy, he owns about a million chick flicks.

Nat made a Plan B and then a Plan C and then a Plan D (which has a lot in common with Alan's "KILL THEM ALL" plan)

Cat took me to Lush and we got hand massages.

Also, internet friends? ILGUYS.

Kara and novemberlauren threatened picketing and spammed me with cheerful songs, Rhonda threatened people's shins and Colline called me a gem.

I talked to Kaz on Skype in a serious business way for her thesis about blogging and then just randomly for about an hour about all sorts of things. Food, especially. I was on a high all day after that!

I have a New Icon! I love earning new icons! It means I get to open my 'Icons that I Save and Crave' folder, current content approximately 50, and pick a lucky new icon. London is Love.

I have a story that I like and it's really flowing! 5000 words of steampunk AU...

And Strictly Come Dancing starts on Friday!

So, good news. Hmm. Uh. Today, some crafty foreign men put new windows into my parents' room's walls! Isn't that cool? And I'm going to eat homemade pizza tonight. And do last week's Sunday Sweets over on Cake Wrecks not look AWESOME?

By the way, if all else fails (it won't, though), I am totally ready to open up a restaurant in Santa Fe with you and we can sing songs from RENT all the time!

From the department of good news: hmmm... it's old news by now, but the Alan Turing case makes me vaguely hopeful for humanity. In more domestic front - I'm starting jazz dancing classes in October! :)

Oh universities, why must you be the bane of our lives? :( I'm so sorry about their INSANE suckiness and failure and I do not know why I want to go to one at all really.

BUT you want good news. Um. I have just been given a very lovely biscuit tin! And...my dad fixed my bike today so now I can actually get around Bristol, hurrah! This morning I went on a baking spree and made scones and shortbread and it's all delicious and I send you some virtually! Have cake, with sprinkles. Sprinkles make everything better. :)

AND there are beautiful Nescafe adverts in the world and the sun is kind of shining and the trailer for Toy Story 3 is adorable and there are crack bunnies and giant man-eating tigers and also I love you. Not sure how much that last one helps, but it's still true.

The university stuff all sounds utterly awful, so I won't even comment on that - instead I'll just move straight on to YAY 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU AND GET OVER IT. I adore both films with a passion. 10 Things might be my favourite of the two (it's so good! I love it. I have spent the last ten years wanting to be Kat), but I have a soft spot for Get Over It as nobody outside my group of friends ever seems to have heard of it. Sometimes we break into the songs from it when in public, to the amusement of all. I approve of the new housemate.

Oh, and I asked around my new college buddies for some good (bad) jokes and pick-up lines, so hopefully these make you laugh, even if it's in a "oh god I can't believe you actually brought yourself to type that up" kind of way. (Just a warning - all the pick-up lines are exceptionally nerdy, since most of my new college buddies are in Honors with me. Hope you know your calculus!)

Well, I spend my kick-awesome days hanging out in Campfire with my favorite Lalfaced person, and my kick-awesome evenings... doing more or less the same thing.

Then I achieved brief internet fame and adoration. That was cool.

My cats are sleeping happily right now as I plug away at what I am already starting to think of as the podfic of Doom.

I think I may have caused novemberlauren to finally get back to work on the Cigarettes fic, my future favorite thing of all time, but promising that I'd podfic it when she finished it.

Oh noes Chatzy doesn't work? The most epic Chatzy story that you have missed is all up on Ev's LJ, because she is evil and thought it would be amusing to tell the world. (She asked what roleplay is. Someone mentioned RPing on Neopets. We all have old Neopets accounts. We went on them and now we are addicted. :( )

Also, lots of people are apparently doing NaNoWriMo this year, including me even though I cannot actually write. The ones that aren't (rav and mathsie, I think?) are going to be supporting us laughing at us.

Oooh, Strictly Come Dancing! I only began watching the last season because Rachel Stevens was in it (...I know. I am a cheesy 90s pop geek) but I liked it a lot so I'll be watching Friday ^_^

I have a new phone! (it's my Dad's old phone but still a few years newer than my previous phone, which was my brother's old phone XD) It is so shiny and cute and tiny and has a good camera on it and has a microSD card so I can put tons of music on it.

I've been pondering for about a month about getting an EEE because they are so adorable and my younger brother got a free netbook for no apparent reason two days ago (which I feel is massively unfair, but my excessive pouting did result in the peace offering of the phone). I can currently afford one and then some, especially since Natwest is giving me a lovely discount code, but I should probably wait until I'm sure that I won't run out of money whilst AT uni (which is, uh, difficult. I want to join MANY societies.)
