Hey you guys! I have a googledoc open where I am writing up various terrible stories from my life (yes, including how I accidentally flashed a bunch of people at a wedding) because my existence is sprinkled with stories that make me sound like a sitcom character. So if you have any requests, speak now.

Also I should not be allowed to write fic on tumblr. Someone remind me of this.

marianne by regenbaum This is one of the first icons I ever had on LJ! I'm pretty sure I stole it from mcollinknight. I'm a French speaker and I talk about languages a lot and this is just SO PRETTY. Marianne is the name of the symbol of France, their Britannia or Lady Liberty, and she formed a large part of my dissertation about propaganda and national identity :D *dorkiest*


randj by the fabulous orexisbella I don't know if this was on purpose or not, but E picked two icons that are tee shirts from The Demon's Lexicon series by Sarah Rees Brennan (READ THEM). This is worn by Mae Crawford, lady of my heart, in the first book, when she goes to the Goblin Market for the first time. It's so perfect and so perfectly Mae. Plus it does my inner cynic good.

So once upon a time my friend anna_unfolding called me Lalafly, which is an adorable nickname and is very dear to me like all pet names from those we love are. And my friend from school used to call me "LB" after Little Butterfly from Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett. Actually I nearly called my LJ papillonette but it was taken :(. So, butterfly lady! Perfect! Plus it's PRETTY.


zombie bf 4eva by orexisbella (text mine) So this is also a TDL tee shirt only this one is special. Because it's MINE, sarahtales ran a competition to win an ARC of her book. One of the categories was to design a tee shirt slogan for Mae to wear. I came up with this, and it WON! And then it got made into an actual tee shirt - see here - and now it's my default icon.


sweetlooking brazilian by hapakitsune I mentioned once to daisysusan that I should get a TSN icon and obviously she shamelessly enabled me, as per. I took this to mean "by all means Lal look through my icons and find one that you like" which I did, and obviously it was by HK :D. It is very pleasing to me because it's the cap of Eduardo that's on my gorgeous TSNBB banner (if I had the skillz and enough spaces I would have the four characters from that banner as icons because *_*) and Eduardo in black will always = sexy catburglar to me. SO SWEETLOOKIN'.

1. Downton. Oh man, this show. It's so completely over the top ridiculous that I don't know what to do with it. It should not give me so many feelings AND YET. As epaulettes tags it, I AM IN AN EDWARDIAN CASTLE OF EMOTION. Unsurprisingly, my favourite character is Lady Mary (I just typed Lady Mark, god help me). She's like a lady version of Mr Darcy, you guys! She has duty to her family and she loves so deeply but keeps it all under the surface and she's too clever to allow herself to be happy. She says that she doesn't have a heart but I think we all know that's not true. Also she's so implausibly beautiful. She wears elbow length gloves. And hats with lace veils. And if she doesn't put her face on Matthew's face RIGHT NOW I will explode from frustration.

2. Harry Potter. Oh my goddd, I can't chooooose. I love everyone in this bar! EVERYONE. Even especially the Malfoys. Oh, Draco, baby, you clever, misguided, conflicted idiot. Maybe Luna? If pushed. I loved writing Luna and she's so amazing in a way that you don't get to see as often as I'd like, and I know I'm being influenced by This Is Now, and if we were allowed to pick characters based on fanon I would say Harry, Maya's Harry specifically because I adore him. And if we were picking people we'd actually like to be our friends it would be Ron. And Hermione is the coolest bitch on earth, goddammit. SEE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

3. The Social Network. Oh lord. Sometimes I think that Mark is my favourite, as I start defending him to the death yet again he's not a robot guys he's not he has a lot of feelings he's just terrible at it, and then sometimes I think that I think this way because I am actually Eduardo, and Mark is totally Wardo's favourite, he can't even front about it, look at his stupid open-as-a-book-with-glass-covers face. Wow, okay, that was a loooooong sentence. I love Amy (as became apparent when I looked up and had written 8k about her awesomeness, as you'll soon see). You know what, Erica Albright, orange socks and perfect comebacks. Best. Accept no substitutes.

4. Merlin. Ahaha, this show. I only watch like, one in three episodes and the amount of Idiot Balls they make the characters hold has now reached 'forced feats of juggling prowess' levels. I love what we see of Gwen, and I adored Morgana, am still very fond of her despite the OUT AND OUT character assassination that is still going on. In fanon, totally Arthur who has the weight of a kingdom on his shoulders and I have a Thing about characters who have a duty and a conflict about what they want versus what they think is right.

Oh memes, I love you so much <3 Whenever I post them I feel boring and self-indulgent, and I always feel like my friends would rather read a post about my life than rambling ~FEELINGS on photos or fandoms or words, but I love them so much. They tell you so much about people in such cool ways, and stuff that you would never normally find out from a regular entry. And although obviously the world cannot be all memes and if my flist was nothing but a long string of memes I would hate it because YAY FOR WORDS ABOUT OUR ACTUAL LIVES, but yes. Basically memes are awesome.

Annnd now that long ramble is over, sorry about that. Your icons are all so pretty, I feel this all the time. And YAY for Downton which is ON TONIGHT OH LAL IF THIS ENDS WITH MATTHEW AND LAVINIA GETTING MARRIED I WILL ACTUALLY CRY BECAUSE I CAN'T DEAL WITH THAT REALITY.

I have a sad few icons because my paid account expired before I remembered to make sure I had the right icons active, so I had to delete lots of spares to get the ones I wanted, and they are mostly flaily and Doctor Who related (because that is the fandom of my heart) anyway. But if you would like me to ramble about my icons then PLEASE ENABLE ME. Also enable me about fandoms and characters because I feel like I don't talk about fandom enough in my journal anymore. (Actually I don't talk enough about *anything* enough in my journal anymore, I am so bad at it oh my god. Well this comment is a long ramble which positively screams 'I am hungover' isn't it?)

I love memes because I get into phases where I don't posts and memes are an easy, good way of getting myself going again. Plus I have a stupid amount of feelings about fictional characters and so jump at any chance to let them all out.

Well, I wrote some Harry Potter fic Back In The Day and I wrote one fairly recently for a Harry Potter RPG which had Luna in it being delightful as she is in the RPG. BEST.
