I never had a TV or a Nintendo growing up! I opened up the case and used canned air to blow away the general dust, but I didn't think to re-seat the cables, nor that the actual connection in the cables might be dusty.
I abhor the computer techs who look at you like you're crazy/completely incompetent when you say that IT WAS TOTALLY DOING THAT BEFORE, WHY IS IT NOT NOW, and/or I DID JUST THE SAME THING, WHY DID IT NOT WORK, because that happens too, too often; they're hardly competent themselves if they fail to recognize this. *used to work tech support*
