Aha, I too was completely and utterly unaware of who these people were or what they looked like or anything about AI. And still, I got sucked into the fandom. There is a fabulous primer (seriously, it is SO funny and made of WIN and good music too), if you would like to know a little more (http://buffyx.livejournal.com/477286.html ), or I can try and explain? Or you could google Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Or you could do what I did and start with the AUs. There are some kickass AUs, the two Most Awesomest, and two of my favourite fics in any fandom ever are astolat's House of The Living and bexless's Apples are not the only fruit. I have them bookmarked. They rule. Seriously. No canon (lol) knowledge required. Kaz agrees with me that AI rules!

Which does rather lead me on to why the nautical terms. Um. Yes. So, I may be writing a long and sprawling Steampunk AU where Kris is an Airship captain... Anyway... I love it dearly and it's currently 17,000 words! That is a lot of words! I cannot quite believe how many words!

Because I have a deep personal unwillingness to turn someone who is potentially gay straight for a fic - but at the same time I feel like there's already a certain about of homosexuality and 3 couples from one floor would be a bit much
My thoughts exactly. Not that I NEED to say this, obviously.

I may have just gone "pshaw" when I tried to work out the timing of everything because originally Jenn's fic (which I swear has an actual name but is now known forevermore as the ninja polar bear fic) was set at Easter and then I was like, no, hang on, they only get TOGETHER right at the end of term. So that would not have worked. We are all too bowled over by the quality of your writing to notice such mundane things as timeframes.

You said you maybe wanted to write RL Jon/Stephen? Did you have any ideas for that? And I am charmed by everything you've come up with so far (the curtains!) and I am sure you will work something out. The only NBNW thought I had was that everyone had taken bets on Jon/Stephen. But sadly, that is not a Plot.

AHAHA PLOT IS MEAN. There have been several occassions when I have been like "whhhhhhhhy, why did I decide to have a plot? Is some witty banter not enough?!"

And then my beta makes me move the banter about so it is not impeding on scenes of Mortal Peril.
