I am afraid I am woefully unaware of the people or culture involved with American Idol, alas. But never fear, I shall peruse the bookmarks!
Oooh, nautical terms! Tell me more!
Well I picked 1984-5ish because I think that's when we collectively decided Stephen and Rahm were at university together? And I needed to look up current events (like all the National Geo stuff, newspaper headlines, Michael Jackson, etc) so I think I just picked 1985 as the setting for the first year - but it doesn't really have any basis on reality, and since I'm writing from my own in-university-in-the-2000s, I imagine that's the way it's skewed. I realized while writing the second part that I wasted a lot of time while they were in first semester and so the events of the second semester, if they were based on a real calendar, would happen like one week after the other, but I was dumb and I realized that 'agh no I already said it was March, they have to write exams soon but there is so much still to happen!' only as I was writing the second part. Thankfully I don't think anyone noticed that.
And no I can't - I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with Andy, relationship-wise. Because I have a deep personal unwillingness to turn someone who is potentially gay straight for a fic - but at the same time I feel like there's already a certain about of homosexuality and 3 couples from one floor would be a bit much. Lol. So I hadn't thought about it much because he was much more a periphery character for me than he was for you - I had a vague thought I would hook him up with/have him crush on Reza Aslan (because I love Reza Aslan) but I'm not sure it would work for NBNWAndy, or at least just not the one I write. (Also, Andy/'Cooper' in the last link I gave you is written so well and THAT is sort of how I would like to write it only not, obvs, with the same person.)
Oh my Jon and Stephen <3 I wanted SO BADLY to write ALL ABOUT THEM but then I wanted it to be unwritten, just hinted at - but I LOOOOVED the way you did it (which was hard to do, since I made my Stephen a bit of a crackbunny and thus hard to take seriously) and I think you got them very right indeed - because the Jon I had in mind for the 'verse was very like your Jon. OH JON <3
Plot bunnies mainly being I think a part I've already posted a few times in drabbleposts, with Jon visiting Rahm in the summer and Barack and Rahm being kind of awkward coming back; and Jon and Rahm would live together, and I wanted to have something epic happen with them all running the student federation but I wasn't sure what. I also had various plot bunnies that involved Blago: both in loltastic ways and in other, uncool ways. I also wanted SO BADLY to use Rahm's IRL quote of "You're never as fierce as they say you are." Outside of NBWN I hadn't really come up with any specific plots yet (I am not so good with the plot thing), lol. DO YOU HAVE ANY TO SUGGEST?
