laliandra: (sweetlooking brazilian)
I did mean to make this entry Some Time ago but, ugh, you guys, I'm still pretty sick. I got sick almost exactly on the stroke of midnight (I'm not kidding, I stood up to sing Auld Lang Syne, sneezed and felt a little wobbly) and have only just come out the other side.

And by that I mean, have been coughing myself to death and leaving people completely ridiculous comments that make less than no sense. With .gifs. And because my friends are, you know, my friends, I am now engaged in TWO gif wars. Obviously.

Anyway, I also left for various Christmas type celebrations on the 16th of December, which I hope goes some way to explaining the amount of LJ radio silence. And LJ kind of sucks these days. But yes, I went and had four days in a tiny room with [livejournal.com profile] moogle62 and it was GLORIOUS. I think we had about 20 hours sleep total, there was a lot of time spent in pyjamas, some very dignified feels watching TSN vids at 3am that we had to talk to some ice cream about, some even more dignified feels about Sherlock Holmes 2 (IN PUBLIC GOOD LORD) and her flatmate describing me as "your *lowers voice* *makes air quotes* friend".

So all around a triumph, really.

And then we met up with some beloved marmfish for merriment and tube debacles and ice skating. Last year [livejournal.com profile] hanelissar and I spent the whole session hands firmly clasped in each others, with much clutching and spinning and delighting in each safe trip round the ice. When we got back onto dry land the rest of the group declared us married. This year I spent more time than seems, um, socially acceptably telling Moog and [livejournal.com profile] altogetherisi to just get their legs further apart, jeez.

And then home to the Isle of Man, which ended up being, to quote Moog, LIKE THE ISLAND ON LOST ONLY INSTEAD OF ACCUMULATING TERRIFYINGLY ATTRACTIVE PEOPLE AND ALSO POLAR BEARS IT JUST ATTRACTS THE WTFUCKERY/INTENSE EMOTIONAL REVELATIONS. So we'll just, move right along with that, then.

And then back to see the boy and his parents, only he got sick, then I got sick, and here we are! Oh, no, only I also recorded three episodes of [livejournal.com profile] podramble (more on that later) and wrote my Yuletide fic.

Not If, Only or Even, But Always. And no, I'm still not sure if all those commas are right.

It was for the movie Zombieland, a witty, charming movie which I loved more than I ever expected to, and featuring some of my very favourite faces. In a turn of events to surprise no one, I have a number of feelings about kickass conlady heroines and their sisters and their twitchy, adorkable boyfriends.

Um, if I haven't posted the Fandom Snowflake thing by the end of tomorrow, someone yell at me?

Happy New Year, my dearest flist!

How the devil are you?
laliandra: (blackdeyada)
Oh man, I am so tired at the moment, and my best girl from school is here, and so I'm totally relying on Past!Lal having achieved things to put any substance at all into this post.

Luckily Past!Lal hasn't been too bad. At least she took some pictures to pretty up the place. And my friends continue to have opinions worth chronicling. Which is handy.

So! I went down to my boyfriend's parents house for a massive family party. After much preparation (during which Nat and I had the most middle-class argument ever. It was about bunting.) many friends of the family and neighbours and extended family descended on the house.

Every second conversation I had, summed up.

Me: Yes, I'm Nat's girlfriend.

Party Guest: OH! When are you getting married.

Me: *thinks* fuck RIGHT off I am TWENTY FOUR YEARS OLD.

Me: *actually says* You should ask (boyfriend's older brother) and (girlfriend)! *forced laugh*

I also met a girl who sat down by me and declared "I love this cake. I would marry this cake. I would make love to this cake." So apparently my willingness to discuss frosting sex is something even strangers can sense. Pictures! Party balloons, party tent, party dress and shoes.

Me: *posts (different) picture of self in dress to Twitter*
Twitter: CONGRATS ON THE BOOBS!
Me: *is very unsurprised*
Then on the following Monday I met my wonderful marmfish loves [livejournal.com profile] hanelissar, [livejournal.com profile] playwithfyr, [livejournal.com profile] hanelissarand [livejournal.com profile] altogetherisifor a day of geeky frolics in London Town. We had the best time. We went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the IMAX in exciting 3D, picnicked outside of Foyles and left TDL bookmarks about the place.

And then we went to see the preview screening of Let's Kill Hitler! SO MUCH EXCITEMENT, OMG.I managed to take one, very faily picture on my phone but oh, wow, you guys, I was SO CLOSE to the front it was AMAZING.

You can read my recounting of this marvellous event at my tumblr. And if you want to talk about the episode, I can finally do that! YESSS. Not spoiling people has been really hard.

Still very conflicted about Steven Moffat. For those of you playing along at home!

The very next day, having got the bus back from London, which takes 6 hours and meant I fell into bed at 6am, I had a [livejournal.com profile] hanelissar to stay. She was good to me in my times of sleep deprivation, and we only wept on each other about our Big Bangs a very little bit. A forest for my pines etcetc. Also there was baking, as per. We made all manner of chocolate chip cookies. Pony cookies! Ship cookies!

For his birthday Nat got tickets to Sunday at Leeds Festival, hurrah. It. Was. Awesome. I mean, it was cold. But awesome. I got to see the National live, which I've wanted to do for an age, and I got to see my best friend Lil be in charge of lighting a whole stage, and go stand with her in the technical area which makes you feel all fancy. She is a fabulous lady doing fabulous things in a completely male dominated industry and I couldn't be prouder.

And at the end of the night we saw Pulp and it was the perfect festival experience, thousands upon thousands of people dancing and singing and yelling lyrics into the night.

LEEDS! MUD! SUNSETS! MUSIC!

In the morning I discovered that I'd sent Moog an email at 2am. I do not remember typing this email, but my inbox suggests otherwise. In it, among other, crazier things (and by that I mean all caps versions of the ridiculous AUs that we are not writing, oh no, that would be ridiculous, what, why are you looking at us like that), I continued a conversation that had started a week or so ago on Twitter.

laliandra: (bookworm)
So. Yes. My lovely exciting new job? Didn't work out. I've already talked a lot about it on twitter and I'm not sure I want to go into it again but. Yeah. It sucks and it makes me sad to think about how frickin' happy and hopeful I was.

But, as ever, my internet family are being amazing. I am, according to the notes attached to the various cards, notes, pictures and postcards I've received "in the process of getting a group hug from the internet. If it doesn't make sense yet, stand by."

YOU GUYS FOR SERIOUS I CANNOT EVEN. They are all so beautiful and HANDMADE and wonderful, oh my god. Thank you so, so much *takes a breath* [livejournal.com profile] vandulocity  [livejournal.com profile] kaiserkuchen [livejournal.com profile] miabee023  [livejournal.com profile] sarkysnarky  [livejournal.com profile] khasael [livejournal.com profile] pigrescuer  [livejournal.com profile] branquignole  [livejournal.com profile] hanelissar  [livejournal.com profile] moogle62 [livejournal.com profile] playwithfyr  and the rest to come. I have never been so sad that there's no post on Sundays. I don't know who the mastermind(s) behind the project but oh my god, thank you and I like how it looks like you are quoting me. I love it when you quote me! #mystery #excitement #bears

In other excellent news the fic that I produced for [livejournal.com profile] pod_together  with the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] nielrian  is up on the AO3! Hurray! It is a Kurt/Blaine summer job fluff extravaganza called Haven't Let You Out Since I Let You In and you can all see what I meant when I said my sunburn was karma. And also experience the wonder that is N's reading, her Kurt voice is so perfect, y'all, I cannot even. PERFECT. I have listened to her say "cliché" over and over. I should probably post it places to be completist but I am so laaaaazy today.

Also I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows P2 at the midnight showing and it was very satisfying and upsetting and I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT HARRY POTTER. It really makes me want to write HP fic again. Maybe we should have "Fandom Will Always Be There To Welcome You Home" fic writing, reading, reccing fest or something.

So, yes, this is mostly an entry of things that I will have more to say about later. Whatever. It's like, 2am here and I need to have achieved something today apart from finally convincing my boyfriend to just download the first season of the West Wing so that we can watch it. He's been holding out for buying the DVDs for <i>years</i>. We are late to the party, sure, but oh, what a party!

*Levels Up*

laliandra: (aspiration)
Hi my loves!

I think I've been more productive this week than I have been in the last two months combined. Come, let us bulletpoint.

  • I finished And The Sky Is Limitless \o/ FINALLY, RIGHT. I'm not sure quite when [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast and I came to the decision that we were finishing edits and posting it but it was sometime after 1am. So, yeah, I stayed up until 4am. But now it is done, hurray and people can READ IT, the WHOLE THING \o/\o/\o/
  • It even comes in a beautiful .pdf that [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact made. IT LOOKS LIKE A REAL BOOK, YOU GUYS.
  • I started my new job! Look at my priorities, lulz.
  • I handed in my TSNBB draft! I mean, it's a sham of a facsimile of a thing but it is IN and that's the important thing. Go Teaaaam \o/
  • I fixed the bug on my phone that was only letting me have one email account on it. I have many identities, phone, I need them all at my fingertips.
  • I dyed a white dress green after taking it up and re-hemming it. Because sometimes I am a fifties housewife.
But yes, New Job! It's one of those jobs that is both vague enough that's it's very hard to explain and specific enough that if I gave all of the details you'd be able to find me. Not that I mind that particularly but I like to pretend I am some good at having a Sekrit Identity. Anyway, I get to speak French all day every day because all of my co-workers and most of our clients are les francophones. Which is really great but also completely exhausting. It's been a while since I spoke French, never mind had to parse conversations between a group of native speakers, so the levels of concentration required at the moment are kind of killer. There is another girl, Elodie, starting with me, which is nice because it means we are learning together and get to ask each other stupid question. She's pretty awesome!

Elodie: Sorry, I have a really sarcastic sense of humour. Don't take me too seriously.
Me: That is the opposite of being an issue.

Elodie and I: *have a long ranting discussion about how terrible Twilight is*
Elodie: The thing is, I'm a feminist. Saying that there is nothing else in a woman's life apart from a man, that is everything I am fighting against.
Me: *_*

The whole atmosphere is so completely different to my last job, I can't even begin to tell you. My boss is lovely, slightly mad and very French. She keeps telling us how much she values our input. She tells us scandalous stories about our clients and google images the underwear models who work for us.

Also, slightly hilariously, there are already two people in my office and one in the Paris office with my actualfax RL name. So I will be Lal at work as well!

So, yes, it's been something of a crazy week. I have been so tired I've just been coming home and napping. I know it sounds strange, but I think finishing SPAU really knocked me for six, the sheer emotional investment I have in that story and those people is overwhelming. I have to take time before replying to comments, partly so that I can do the dance of comment joy, and partly so as I don't leave replies saying OMG YOU LIKE THEM I DO TOO I LOVE YOU FOR LOVING MY BABY. Yeah. Writing makes you crazy, y'all.

Anyway, I have to go sort out my big bang draft. Apparently when I said, "I REQUIRE THAT SOMEONE WRITE A CONPEOPLE  AU" that person turned out to be. Ugh, plot, how do you worrrrrrk. And the boyfriend has made lamb curry from scratch.

:D and how are yoooooou?

laliandra: (youramericanidol)
The universe has apparently decided to punish me for actually having things to do by making me ill at the most inconvinient time. I start my new job tomorrow! I have SO MANY THINGS TO WRITE, oh man. And I just want to curl up in a ball and sleep forever, or at least until I stop feeling achey and naseous and that things like "other people" and "clothes" are overwhelming and complex.

But oh well! I have some pictures and things to share with you and a meme! You know I love memes.

My lovely ex-housemate Elliot is staying with us at the moment while he is between houses. It's great because he loves to cook! And he brought a bread-maker, which I have been dorkishly excited about. We've made many types of bread, as well as pizza dough and tea cakes. BAKING \o/

I also made cupcakes solely so that I could try out the fancy new icing kit that my Dad sent me. I will freely admit to essentially being SweetOnYou!Wardo. I'm okay with that.

In SPAU news, I am nearly done with editing the final part \o/ I recently dug out the post-it summery system I used to plot out the whole sprawling mess, and somehow the last chapter translated from 3 notes into 10,000 words. No idea how that happened! Anyway, I thought I would share them with you, it's not spoilery - far too vague, especially as one of the notes just says, "THE END" and we all knew that was coming, right?

And for the last few days my other lovely ex-housemate, Belle, has been staying. I haven't seen for nearly 6 months, which has been horrible. She's been in Peru teaching, and she brought me back many things with llamas on. Hurrah! She's starting teacher training tomorrow, and the program she's on sounds more and more like a cult every time she mentions it.

Belle: We had to vote for a song of the 2011 cohort. And they are going to play it at every morning meeting.
Me: Oh god.
Belle: I'm there for 6 weeks.
Me: Oh GOD.
Belle: And I think we have to chant the mission statement.
Me: Should we start creating code words in case you need us to come break you out?

We had day out in Knaresborough, historical market town. I was mostly just excited about the bubblegum ice cream.

You also get to see my attempt to paint a tiny tie onto my nail, which was [livejournal.com profile] mcollinknight 's suggestion after I was discussing painting my nails Dalton Academy colours for the Darren Criss concert that I'm going to with [livejournal.com profile] altogetherisi (!!!!!)

I should return back to edits and also to trying to get my stupid TSNBB underway *clings to [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith and [livejournal.com profile] moogle62 * Quite how I conned my way into getting two such wonderful writing buddies I will never know... We are all in the same crazy boat of having decided, for reasons known only to our brains, of writing plotty AUs. TEAMTSNBB: WE ARE ALL INSANE.

But first, a meme from [livejournal.com profile] mistresscurvy

1. So TENNIS. What are your feelings? Who are your players? Thoughts on Murray's chances of breaking the curse?
Wimbledon! The thing you have to know about me and sport is that I am astonishingly poor at it, but love to watch other people play it. Tennis is so fascinating to me because it's such a strange mix of intimate, one-on-one psychological battling and pure athleticism. And everyone who plays is so different! There is no right way to tennis. There are plenty of wrong ways, mind, as I know all too well. Anyway, I don't have many players that I always support .I tend to cheer for the English and French players, but apart from that I like a good story. It takes one nicely put together package, one fight back from the brink or hilarious reaction and I am THERE. I get very invested very quickly, what can I say? I have a special fondness for Wimbledon because it reminds me of summer, and of my Mum's out of control crush on Andre Agassi. And it's so marvellously English and lovely.

2. What does your boyfriend think about all of your crazy fandom shenanigans?
Ahahaha, oh man. I sometimes think I'm going to write an essay about fandom and it will start - "my boyfriend doesn't understand fandom".  Which is not entirely true, but basically, he is pretty much a constantly cycling mix of amused, supportive and completely baffled. He understands some parts of fandom, I think, but not really how it actually functions. He is constantly suprised that we are, in essence, a society that functions without currency. He's always asking where the money for things comes from, why people are doing things if they're not getting paid. The idea that [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast has beta'd my 50k plus story for nothing but love blows his mind.  It's sort of hard to explain to someone, because it lacks a decent comparison. He is a dork in many ways, so he understands being a fan of something, but that's not everything that I mean when I say I'm from fandom, you know? It's so much more than that, sometimes I think defining oneself as being from fandom says more about your values and thought processes than something like your nationality does. Anyway, he's pretty supportive of my crazy writing habits, because I am a cliche writer and sometimes get lost in my own imagination. And now that he's met some of my fandom friends he seems to have been convinced that yes, we are actually real, proper, I love and value these people beyond measure friends. I mean, he still refers to y'all as my "crazy internet friends" but that is through observation, not through prejudice against friends made online. Okay, wow, this has turned into kind of an essay. He still calls the internet my other boyfriend a lot :D

3. What was your first fandom? Do you miss it?
It was Harry Potter! No surprises there, I think it's the same story for a lot of people my age or thereabouts. It's the gateway drug of fandom! And I do miss it sometimes, but I've kept the vast majority of the friends I made there, and I still get to be a super Potterhead a lot. It's not my main fandom in that I don't write in it anymore, really, but it's my forever fandom. I was massively excited about Pottermore! I love that there is still so much always to say and think about the series. I've just realised that I don't think I have anyone nearby to see the last movie with when it comes out, because all of my geeky friends are too far away or on holiday at the time. Woe. Harry Potter, I will never be over yoooooou.

4. If you could be anyone else in the world for one day, who would you choose and why?
Ooo, this is an awesome question! It's so tempting to say someone powerful but I'd probably just like to be rich and do lots of exciting things. I could be someone from fandom so that I could check on our canon. So tempted to say Mark Zuckerburg. Because being a politician wouldn't actually mean you could change the world in a day, but if you were 1. a billionaire and 2. in charge of Facebook...

5. Do you have siblings? If so are you close to him/her/them?
I don't! I am an only child. Make snap judgements about them at your peril.

If you want to play the questions game, ask and you shall receive. The number of the questions shall be five...
laliandra: (campfire)
It’s only been a month! I! No, I have no excuses, I am the failiest blogger ever to fail at blogging. Aaaand now the word blog has stopped sounding like a word to me.

On with the con report!

YOU GUYS I WENT TO A FANDOM CONVENTION AND IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER.

I was staying with [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast in New York (you know, as you do) which will be part of another thing which I will totally get round to writing up and then [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith drove a Very Long Way and braved the wilds of New Jersey to come bop around NYC and the thriftstores therein with us for a few days, before driving the three of us to Boston for [livejournal.com profile] muskratjamboree

Oh yes, fangirl roadtrip! During which we listened to the Libertines and decided they are the most perfect The Social Network soundtrack band ever and that someone should make a vid to Can't Stand Me Now immediately and also The Fantasticks cast recording, with [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast telling us the story in between the songs. [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith did an extremely heroic job because it was dark and snowing A LOT and it turns out that it’s quite a long way to Boston *hopelessly English*.

We were supposed to be meeting [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact and [livejournal.com profile] swiiftly at the hotel where the con was happening and where the five of us had a room. Fangirl sleepover! But, heartbreakingly [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact hurt her back just a few days before and couldn’t come. The pining, it was epic. But we found ourselves a lovely [livejournal.com profile] swiiftly lurking in the lobby and then proceeded to not sleep, as we had planned to, but to go through her welcome pack, eat chips and then I read out the opening page in French for reasons that made a lot of sense at the time...

Which may be part of the reason that we all got up blearily late and I was still in the shower and [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith only half dressed when it was time to go down for breakfast and the welcome and icebreaker thing. So we missed those :/. But on the plus side it meant that when we did wander down we migrated to the craft table, which turned out to be a brilliant plan! Now, I am not an artistic person, at least not with Visual Mediums, but it turns out that I cannot resist the lure of photos of people I fangirl. And glitter pens. We ended up hanging out for about an hour and making some very useful signs for future panels.

Also [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith helped make a Very Special Picture of Gerard Way and brimtoast put googly eyes on Lord Voldemort which turned out to be too terrifying to exist *shudders*

I made this!
IMG_0451

The way MJ worked was that there were two panels every hour, so had you had to pick one that you were attending, which was sometimes nigh on impossible. Okay, so panel lists and reaction to follow. This might get long, kids.

A Round Up Of The Panels I Attended Part 1 )

After the panels we piled into the lift to find the The Social Network watching party.
[livejournal.com profile] novembersmith : Did you check for the room number?
Me: I was just following this person with the glittery “Social Network Party!” sign
[livejournal.com profile] zeenell : Er, hello!

The viewing party was probably one of my highlights of the whole weekend. There were delicious mudslides, which as far as I could tell are wonderful but lethal cups of various spirits mixed with ice cream. It was just a room of happy people, all laughing and being delighted to meet each other and fangirling each other and piling onto beds to watch a brilliant movie with brilliantly slashy subtext.

The Social Network: *starts to get pretty sad*
[livejournal.com profile] novembersmith : Lal! This is the point where we hold hands.
Me: *strickenface* YES I AGREE *clutches*
[livejournal.com profile] swiiftly : *takes [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith 's other hand from over on the other bed*
[livejournal.com profile] elipie : I know we have just met, but I think I need to clutch your hand also.
Me: I think so too!

So then everyone held hands to get us through the tough times. We may also have yelled at the screen some. These things happen. Afterwards we had to watch happy vids. Essentially, you haven’t lived until you’ve heard a bunch of fangirls sing along to Bad Romance while slightly tipsy and falling off beds laughing and dancing.

Then we went to get ready for the vid party! And by get ready I mean drink candy coloured drinks straight from the bottle and wander around in various states of undress. Because we are the classiest.

While waiting for the show to start we - possibly in a horse, stable door situation - had something to eat. I remember gesticulating a lot with a stick of celery. We also alarmed the random other people sitting at our table.

Me: You and your dead boys.
[livejournal.com profile] novembersmith : I know, I know. I just like writing about them...
[livejournal.com profile] swiiftly : But it’s ok!
Me: Because there’s no necrophilia!
[livejournal.com profile] novembersmith: EXACTLY.
Me: And no-one has actual sex with a dragon.
(please note, these are things that [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith has put in fic summaries/disclaimers.)
Girl At Our Table: Ohhhhkaaaaay. *looks at life, looks at choices*

There were a few technical difficulties which [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl dealt with a good deal less panic than I would have, and there a mass sing-along of a song about pirates. I don’t even know. But it was awesome. The vidshow was epic, I LOVE FANVIDS SO MUCH YOU GUYS. Even the ones for fandoms that I didn’t know. Watching vids with fangirls is such a great experience, listening to everyone laugh and cheer their favourite characters and also be utterly destroyed by this Harry Potter video. Seriously, the lights came back up just afterwards and everyone was just clutching each other and sniffling.

Then it was time to dance! I very much enjoyed that my dancing parters were also of the DANCE IN THE MOST DRAMATIC AND INTERPRETIVE WAY EVER school of movement, which is the best way of dancing ever, okay. Highlights were definitely doing the most energetic point at everyone dance with [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast , [livejournal.com profile] swiiftly and [livejournal.com profile] mistresscurvy  to If I Had You, the whole room bouncing for the whole of Planetary Go! (with added fabulousness from K), [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast and I learning the dance routine to Guilty Pleasure in about 3 choruses and yelling bed based Panic! lyrics at [livejournal.com profile] swiiftly .

There was a slight room keycard incident after the show but we managed to use our problem solving skillz for the win, and also I found an ice machine and vending machine with ginger ale in a hidden area around the corner from our room. My very important priorities, let me show you them.

In a slight tangent, I’ve just noticed how much internet specific language I’m using here, and it was definitely one of the things I enjoyed about MJ, getting to use all of these words that are day-to-day to me, but never get to say out loud in social situations. I mean, sometimes people used terms that other people didn’t get but it was just so, idk, freeing and lovely and easy to say things like “jossed” and “flist” and “fridged” and “bulletproof kink” and so on and so forth. Also people weren’t surprised when I finished a sentence with “I can’t even...” which confuses my boyfriend on a regular basis.

Anyway! Saturday!

A Round Up Of The Panels I Attended )

So, yeah, MJ. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done. So much love and kudos to [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl and [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley for organising it (while also moving house, wtaf, these women are superheroes). The level of planning and detail that went into it was incredible and it all went so smoothly.

I think the defining thing I will take away was how positive it was, in every possible way. You couldn’t move for people complimenting each other. Someone was always telling someone else that they just loved their cool geeky tee shirt or their hair or tattoo or their tights (:D). People saw usernames on name tags and ran up to say “I love your fic/art/post/general existance!” Seriously, someone hugged [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith for writing Anatomy of a Fall and me and [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast got all *proudtear* IT WAS AMAZING. And when someone said something funny, or clever or cool in a panel, and people were always saying funny, clever, cool things in panels, everyone was so appreciative. And it does bear repeating, the comments in the panels were of an incredibly high standard, I could hardly stand it. Fangirls are fucking hilarious, and they are damn smart and they are hella interesting.

And it was also positive because it really did feel like, I don’t know how to say this without sounding really cheesy, but it was just really open. Like, everyone got to talk about their kinks and their queerness and their stupid things that they just really, really love, they love them so much that it makes them make crazy hand gestures and squeaky noises and they can’t, they can’t even. And everyone else? Everyone else just said, HELL YES. ME TOO.

And on that note... <3
laliandra: (strawberries)
Hey lovely flist!

Sorry about the hugely long entry of meme-ish doom that was my last post. I had fun, though!

There are a few things that either got lost in the word onslaught or are just awesome and I wanted to share.

I mean, the thought of having this job for too much longer is kind of upsetting but NEVER MIND *thinks of the money*

3. The company I work for are having a ball to celebrate the company's 10th birthday and new product launch. Which means I get to go to a swanky do for free and drink swanky drinks and wear a very swanky dress. That is to say, my old prom dress that I am jazzing up for the occasion. I've dragged it from house to house for 5 years, it's good that it's finally getting some wear. Also that I get to be all, oh, this old thing, I just CUSTOMISED IT MYSELF *is the most hipster*

4. The ever fabulous [livejournal.com profile] kaiserkuchen drew amaaaaaaaazing The Hunger Games art for [livejournal.com profile] yuletart which everyone should go marvel at. My new goal in life is to have Kaz draw me beatiful and kickass outfits and then have someone make them for me. Look at those dresses, people! Paper dolls are made of WIN, I used to have sets and sets of them when I was younger. Plus this art is somehow fashionable, lovely and creepy as all hell so, you know, KUDOS TO HER.

5. I got a really incredible cupcake book for Christmas (my relatives know me so well! My Granny, as she tends to do, also bought me incredibly fabulous jewellery because she kind of rocks like that) and it has so many recipes in it that I just keep reading it over and over in a bakery daze. It's like porn. But I love it extra specially because it has a recipe for Tiramisu cupcakes! This is only truly exciting news to people who have read the Inception coffeeshop AU but OMG I CAN MAKE TIRAMISU CAKE. Now all I need is an Eames to make the coffee.

OKAY STOPPING NOW. How is everyone? Do you want to talk about cake?!
laliandra: (aspiration)
Oh, god, I haven't posted in forever and a day. Or, like, three weeks but whatever. The internet moves at the speed of light and all.

So, I suspect that y'all suspect me of having achieving great and marvellous things in my absence from your flists.

This is sadly not the case.

Sorry.

My boyfriend Nat has been working away, many miles away for the last month, only home at the weekends. So I've been Home Alone. I meant to get a lot of stuff done, mostly writing and maybe some recording. But mainly what I did was mope around the house, watching a lot of crap TV and eating biscuits. Sulkily.

I also went to work. Work sucks, I know, right? It's reached a stage with my co-workers which feels very Assimilate or Die. Like, I have next to nothing in common with any of them, and they are not interested in most of the things I am passionate about and. I can either keep myslef to myself and listen to the music that I like and podfic. Or I can feign an interest in things I really don't care about (can I fake it about fake tan?) and stop myself making sarcastic comments (I swear, I don't mean it badly, it's my sense of humour)  and using complicated words (which Karen [who thought that euthanasia was a country] accused me of doing to take the piss). Stop being the proper version of myself. I don't know. I think I've got so used to being with people like, well, like you guys. Who send me tweets supporting my choice to grin like an idiot while I rewatch clips of Glee on the train and who use words like, "proselytize" and who blame me and &hearts me and squee about sexy revelations with me and just GET ME.

ANYWAY. Enough of my angstface/FANDOMADORATION. Seriously though. You guys. <3.

Let us focus on what I actually have achieved...

I made my Master List/ Introduction Post! VICTORY IS MINE AND IT COMES IN DELICIOUSLY LISTY FORM. It took me an upsettingly long time because livejournal hates my face and also my attempts at html. Oh, so very much html. So, new friends, old friends, lurkers, please feel free to go comment and ask anything you would like to (I have included suggestions but have no doubt you'll think of something much more awesome) or just marvel at the amount of of RPF I seem to have ended up writing \o?

I read Who Fears Death for bookdeyada and it was amazing and set in Africa and full of fabulous female characters and non Western mythology and, ugh, I loved it so much. I love it when you get to the end of a good book and you just feel this really bone deep feeling of satisfaction, you know? Shoe joy is all glitter shiny and instant but book joy is real fulfilment.

I recorded myself playing television theme tunes on the kazoo and singing show tunes for various people, thus proving that I probably shouldn't be left on my own for long periods of time.

I broke my laptop charger dancing to My Chemical Romance but now have a new, shiny one that actually works properly and not just in one special position which takes forever to find. My precious laptop, I have missed you so! *pets, gently*

I signed up for Muskrat Jamboree which is a very very awesome fandom convention. In America. So, yeah. I AM GOING TO AMERICA and I am going to stay with [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast in New York and meet [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact and [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith and [livejournal.com profile] swiiftly in Boston and we are going to a FANDOM CONVENTION and OMG I AM SO EXCITED CAN YOU TELL?!?! So, if you are in the New York or Boston area around the end of March/start of April we should totally meet up and have coffee or something. I plan on riding the A train and charming people with my accent!

I have been around on other parts of the internet, even though I have been a terrible poster. I have been on twitter, like, all the fricking time. I live on Twitter. How did I survive work without Twitter? I have a service that allows me to use Twitter like a text message, where I just write out the message and send it to a number, which I find extremely cool. I get to text people all over the  world for free! So I was discussing the Glee version of Teenage Dream as sung by AVPM's Darren Criss with [livejournal.com profile] kaiserkuchen  and she made an excellent point and so I replied

Yes, yes eye fucking, exactly \O/

You may notice the distinct lack of an @ at the beginning of that tweet (incidentally have I mentioned that I hate almost all the words associated with Twitter? Tweeting *shudders*) so of course it or rather Yes, yes eye fucking, exactly \O/
showed up on EVERYONE's feed. There was some confusion, but mostly in a "Oh, Lal, what is it this time?" kind of way. Which I appreciated. I feel it is a fairly accurate summary of my feelings on the subject anyway. It is extra amusing to me because just a few days I had been telling Kaz that it is basically my greatest fear that one day I will accidentally text Twitter instead of my boyfriend... I mean, going on what most of our conversations are like it will be something about the weather or poorly spelled shop signs but YOU NEVER KNOW.

I wrote a teeny tiny sequel to my Inception subway!AU fic, (AKA the fic of nothing but crosswords and snarkary, or My Subconscious Loves You, [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast) for [livejournal.com profile] bookshop 's fluff meme. I am well, well aware that this is NOT what I am supposed to be writing, but anyway, I did. This is because I am powerless to resist the lure of being ordered to write something delightful and schmoopy and because the fluff meme is like a big fuzzy blanket that I can wrap myself in after a particularly crappy day and because I wanted to do something nice for many reasons but mainly, as I said to C,  because sometimes people in fandom are dicks. There is a little more further down the thread, by the way, so scroll down if you feel your sugar levels can take it...

I also went dancing a lot, which remains awesome. We are doing a samba routine at a Carnaval club night in December and my friend is trying to persuade us all to wear bikinis. I will be on Team More Than Bikinis, Oh Please, For The Love Of God, but I suspect my team will not win. Possibly we need a snappier name.

And you guys? How have you been? Didja miss me?!
laliandra: (blackdeyada)
You guys.

YOU GUYS!

I HAVE INTERNET AGAIN.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

We have broadband and cable TV and a landline and I installed them all myself.

AND I HAVE INTERNET FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A MONTH.

A MONTH.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

BRING HATS AND AWESOME GIFS/PICS, I AM OFF TO DOWNLOAD TV SHOWS. LET'S CELEBRATE!!!

So how are y'all? :D
laliandra: (in~your~endo)
Still not dead!

Still have no internet!

So, yeah. The internet at the old house got cut off and they still haven't installed internet at the new house.

So, I am sitting in a local McDonalds using their wi-fi. As Ari said, classy. I keep having to buy McFlurrys (because I kind of love them even though they are made of chemicals and air) and people keep walking past and peering at my screen. Writing fic is really hard when teenage guy keep trying to read it over my shoulder.

Apart from it being woefully internetless (seriously. SERIOUSLY D:) the new house is awesome. It's so sunny and there is so much room! I've unpacked my beloved books and the old lady next door picked us flowers from her garden. Also, you know, boyfriend.

It's been weird moving out of my old house. I had a great time there, but it never really felt like a permenent house. Sometimes I used to wake up in my bedroom there and been really confused about where I was, even after I had lived there for months.

But I'll miss my housemates! The week before I left, we had so much fun.

Eve: Well, I don't want to force my nuts on you!
Elliot: *Comes into the room* Errrr.
Jill: No, I don't think we should explain this.

Elliot: Are you drawing pentagrams on yourself?
Lal: Kinda?
Elliot: This is why people think you're in a death cult.
Lal: You wear ONE pair of earrings with knives on...

Lal: You are a DOCTOR! Yaaaaaaay! (Elliot just passed his PHD! We were all very excited!)
Eve: I feel inadequate.
Lal: Me too.
Elliot: But you guys have skills!
Lal: I am working on my Queen of Nerds program.
Elliot: *very dry* I think you're nearly there.
Lal: True. I am like the Princess Eugenie of Nerds.

So, yeah, I will miss them, only Elliot is staying in Leeds. I won't get to drink random alcohol and do latin declentions with Jill. I won't get to watch bad television and eat delicious stir fry with Eve.

But, tonight me and Nat are celebrating the new house with fajitas and champagne. Plus I have a temp job for next week and then the week after that [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast is coming to stay. Aaah, I am so excited!

YAAAAAAAAY!

Anyway, I miss y'all. A lot. I can do limited stuff on my phone, but it's so slooooow and time consuming. So, it is Mcdonalds for me! I need my internet, a lot.

How is everyone? We are having marvellous sunshine, are you? (hello I am a British stereotype, want to talk about the weather?)
laliandra: (secretworld)
Hey everyone!

So I have been woefully sick for the last few days. It has been most unpleasant and I have been living in a cave of pillows and listening to this weekend's cricket commentary and tennis. The sound of other people excelling at sport is soothing to me!

But there are Events looming on the horizon, exciting events the like of which are unparalleled in the land of Lal (Lalistan? Lallandia?).

Firstly, the World Cup is nearly upon us! I love the World Cup at the best of times. Like I said, I really like watching other people be amazing at sports that I myself fail miserably (read, most sports). Me and my Dad used to watch Match of The Day together every week (sons? Who needs sons?!) and I love football and also really love huge sporting events. I love people doing things for their countries and achieving these huge, impossible sounding goals. I think one of my very first LJ entries was about how addicted I was to the Olympics in 2008 (and also about how I was shipping some rowers).

But this year is extra special for me because this year my country is the host nation! YAY SOUTH AFRICA! I am a child of apartheid and I still struggle to be proud of the land I was born in, it's full of crime and disease and terrible inequality. But it's also amazing, beyond amazing, and probably the only country in the whole continent that could even consider holding something on the scale of a World Cup. So, there is a lot of oversimplification of the unique situation South Africa finds itself in now, and of its past. So, yes, 99% of the programming surrounding the World Cup makes me want to throw things at the television (one trip to Soweto does not make you an expert on the "Legacy of Apartheid" or the "spirit of the African people" -  I'm looking at you Piers Morgan) and go on rants about how there is a fine line between admiration and plain patronising.

But, for the first time in a really long time, the first time in my lifetime apart from those few brief shining years where we said the words "A rainbow nation" without irony, there are news stories about my country, and they are positive.

Also there will be a lot of hot men in shorts. :D

Secondly, all the books on the [livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada poll this month look amazing. I am never going to be able to pick! So many books, so little time.

Thirdly and best til last-ly, at the end of this month, I will be moving in with Nat. Oh yes internet, me and the boyfriend are renting a house together. Cohabitation! My feelings are pretty much a mixture of

and also

I mean, I am looking forward to it a lot. A huge amount that cannot really be covered by "a lot" but that I am loathe to go into because I fear The Sappy. I'm sorry, ok, I have this whole romantic cynic conflict going on. And the house is gorgeous, all wooden floors and big windows and a huge spare room to fill with books (mine) and drums (Nat's) and guests (who does[livejournal.com profile] brimtoast belong to).

But I am also a little bit !!! about it. I am weird! And kind of messy! I like to sing a lot and practice arabesques in the kitchen. I stay up way too late reading and I cover surfaces with post-it notes that say things like "MAKE OUT?!" on them. And also, Oh my god, I think I'm a grown-up *freaks out*.

Overall though, I am super excited and you should all come stay.

I hope y'all are well and if you would like me to talk soppy nonsense, football (not soccer, never soccer to me) or general chit chat, I am all ears. Apart from the parts of me that are typing fingers :).

Ps. I am also excited for [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith 's jacket (Prizes for anyone who gets that reference!) Bandom BB fic! OMGYOUGUYSITISSOAWESOME.
laliandra: (blackdeyada)
I am twitterpated! (thank you [livejournal.com profile] shiningartifact)

http://twitter.com/laliandra

TA-DA!

I blame Isi. She said it was good for procrastination and mild stalking, and I am powerless to resist such lures. Enchanted, ensnared etcetc

Um. Now what does one do?

Apart from make large eyes at [livejournal.com profile] mcollinknight . Kaz is here too. JOIN USSSSSSS.

If I am supposed to say what I'm doing, it's writing about the weapon that is deathly politeness, househunting and pining for my ebook of The Demon's Covenant which I was cruelly dragged from. WOE.

And that is surely more than 140 characters of what I'm doing. My life is so complex, y'all! :D!

See, I will still need LJ. You can just use twitter to remind me about all the things I said I'd post...

So, er, follow me? Or something?
laliandra: (cakey thoughts)
So!

I am 23.

It feels much as 22, only less symmetrical. I had a wonderful birthday yesterday, thank you so, so much for all the messages etc of good wishes and sprinkles and all that. I felt quite overwhelmed with love. You are all darlings of the highest order, and I feel very special having y'all as my flist. All other flists pale into insignificance.

Anyway, I had a lovely day. I went to a very excellent all day music festival on Sunday, so got up late and got cards and lovely things from the internet like virtual mix CDs and flower picspams.  There was some mooching, also some faffing, and making people do my bidding (MUHAHAHA). Plus phone calls from awesome people, and cards with umbrellas on them.

Then Nat took me out for a swanky meal, and I had a very large black forest gateau with cherry ice cream.

But, it turns out that my birthday is a Magic Day! So many random good things happened! I did not know I had such power. So, here are five very cool things that we can all enjoy together, in light of 5th April being lucky with extra luck sprinkles.

1. One of the bands that I saw on Sunday were Hope and Social. Check Them Out! They were amazing. They have a brass section. And they played this one song that I just fell in love with.

Red, Red Rose by Hope and Social. When they play it live, they do call and response with "Blue Skies..." and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

2. So, I had this conversation with Nat during my birthday meal.

Nat: I don't really have a present for you. I don't know what you want! But. You know I was trying to get a ticket for the first day of Leeds?

Me: No? You were?

Nat: What? Because, you do know who is playing there on the Friday?

Me: No? Who?

Nat: You do know that the Libertines are reforming for Leeds Festival?

Me: NO. What? OMG, what? *nearly falls off chair*

Nat: But... How did? You live in the internet, how did you not know this? Anyway, would you like a ticket as your present?

Me: *looks around* This restaurant is such a bad place for an attack of flailing.

SO YES. Did you know this? The Libs. They broke my heart last time, they had better stay friends forever this time round. I am putting my faith in you, Pete Doherty, do not let me down. If you haven't heard of them, you should definitely get on board, they were, are, a great British band. And they will always be extra special to me because both my boyfriend and my best friend adored them for years, and then I got to introduce my campfire ladies to them. I think I was slightly dazed at poor Nat for a while because, surreal! So, yes. The LIBS.

3. My dearest [livejournal.com profile] mcollinknight is doing a LADIES ARE AWESOME post. You should all go play. It's a great idea and also a tiny bit for my birthday, so I feel like I can invite y'all to her place. Just be good, don't break anything, be nice about Canada.  We need more pictures and so on of awesome ladies being awesome!

4. Because pictures of cats are always amazing. This is Alfie, the unsubtle cat that I mentioned in my last post. He is ridiculous and likes to clomp around my Granny's house muttering to himself. He has tiger paws and the brain of a kitten...

5. My Dad got me a Good Deal of Amazon vouchers for my birthday. Which means that I will be set up to buy a book for [livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada for a good few months to come. And also that if anyone would really love to join but doesn't think that they can afford to buy a copy of this month's (really excellent) book, The Hunger Games, well, I could probably  gift you one. Because it's A FANDOM BOOKCLUB AND I WANT EVERYONE TO JOIN AND HAVE FUN TOO! Ahem. Sorry, I am still really excited about it...[livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada !

There we are! 5 awesome things for the 6th. A catrillion hearts to you all.
laliandra: (dreams)
So, I am home for a weeks holiday on the Isle of Man. It's fairly lovely, I went to a wind orchestra concert and out for teas and lunches and such. I'm staying with my Granny and my Great Aunt, who are both, in the grand tradition of my family, crazy-awesome. Also their cat Alfie who is the least subtle cat in all the world. He likes to drape himself across my lap and demand stomach skritching. It's pretty good.

Anyway, I have been supposed to post about this for ages but my internet access here is limited and I have been distracted by trying to write make out scenes (ARGHARD). But I digress from the matter at hand, which is that I have exciting news!

So, books are great, right? And talking about books is great, and the internet is great and fandom, fandom is fantastic. Well, the lovely [livejournal.com profile] brimtoast and a couple of other equally lovely people (and myself) decided that the only way to make these things even better would be to combine them all.

So, we present [livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada , a fandom book club! And you should all come play with us! We are going to read abook a month and I loooooooove talking books with y'all and it's going to be SO MUCH FUN.

And yes it is called bookdeyada mainly for my own amusement (and hopefully the amusement of others).

You can go now and nominate a book for April. So, you should totally do that, or just wait for a decision and then join in the discussion. You don't need to be all Literary Criticism about it, you can just read the book and go EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! with other people. Just, book clubs are so much fun, but it isn't possible for everyone to get to a real life one . And in this book club you can compare characters to Remus from the Shoebox project or talk about slash and canon vs fanon and shipping, because it's a fandom book club. How cool is that?! I am excited! I don't know if the exclamation marks made this clear enough!

GO! THE POWER OF LAL COMPELS YOU! ADD US A FRIEND! NOMINATE A BOOK! READ THE SUPER COOL INTRO!

Or you can ask me questions first. But I recommend doing BOTH. Then come tell me all about how you have joined and how awesome it is going to be!

[livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada , [livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada , [livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada , [livejournal.com profile] bookdeyada !
laliandra: (Londonlove)
Hi Person who is going to write me a story! And Everyone else who is along for the ride.

So, this is my yuletide letter, which is a teeny bit late seeing as assignments have already gone out and for that I am so, so sorry. Because, basically, you are SO awesome. You picked one of my fandoms, I already know that you are awesome.

So, there are things that I love in general in any kind of story.

<3 Banter. It is my greatest, dearest love. It can be flirtatious banter or friendly banter or people trying to get one up over their nemesis banter. I don't care. I am a banter!slut and I don't care who knows it.

<3 People being passionate about things. Just, yes, yes please. Which is linked to -

<3 People being good at stuff. I don't care what! I especially like to see ladies being purely competent at stuff, because, yeah, that is still upsettingly lacking. Extra bonus points if that is ladies being matter of factly good at stuff without it being made a Huge Deal By Everyone and making them any less of a normal, flawed person. Speaking of which.

<3 Flaws. I like my characters to have them, and I like the people who they love to have them and I like them to recognise that the person that they adore, in whatever sense of the word, has them.

<3 Trivia. What I mean by this is, little details that make up a world. Or fun facts about squid. Whatever. My greatest fic moment was sharing my "polar bears are ninja" funfact with the world. I just like all the crazy small facts of this world, and all the fictional ones, too.

Much love,
Lal, who just loves stories...

So, that's what I like! But really, I'm easy. What do YOU like?!
laliandra: (sprinkles)
You guys!

I have a job!

I have a French translator/Interpretor job for a perfume company! And it is in Leeds and I start a week on Monday and I am SO relieved and happy and excited.

And a little freaked out because it is like a real, grown up job.

Oh hell. I'm a grown up...

But on the plus side, money and an excuse to go shopping and now I will be able to do all manner of things. Weren't we organising a marmfish meet up?

All in all, I think this calls for

Creepy Tom Felton Arms of Victory!

\o/

ISN'T THAT JUST THE MOST CREEPTACULAR THING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN?!

It totally makes me want to sit Tom Felton down and have a chat about the difference between 'edgy' and ridiculous and say "Oh Tom, why?" a good few times...

I MEAN, IT IS HILARIOUS AND KIND OF SECOND HAND EMBARRASMENT INDUCING AND WEIRDLY EPIC.

I am gainfully employed AND today I saw the Tardis in a museum display of Dr Who props. I will now try and pass on some of my good karma.

In conclusion

laliandra: (blackdeyada)

My LJ is ONE! *gives LJ cake*. More on that later.

You guys, I am IN a fandom. I mean, I have other fandoms, I love other fandoms, I write for other fandoms. But I've realised that I am in the [livejournal.com profile] marmalade_fish .

It's a weird thing for me, because I am usually a lurker extraordinaire. And I'm not a very good fangirl, in many respects. I could never be in a ship war. I can overlook adaptation decay. For me, fandom is more about getting to meet people who love what you love, being able to share that. Fandom is my Happy Place, and I've totally lucked out with the people I've met through it.

Which is why when there was a chance to go meet my fellow marmfish for a picnic, I couldn't say no!

Firstly I stayed up far too late watching American Idol with Kara, so the only sleep I got was on the coach. But I managed to make it safely to Victoria and meet Boo ( who had made us labels! Cute labels with pictures!) and then Play and then PR and then Van and Rav and Isi.

We trailed through St James Park holding our jar of marmalade aloft. God only knows what people thought we were doing. The lure of the marmalade netted us Emily and Evenine, who had arrived that morning from Australia!

And then we picniced, in between talking non stop about books and films and generally getting distracted half way through sentences.

We also read out Sarah's fabulous Half Blood Prince Parody. I was being distracted and so got stuck with All Other Roles, which meant I got to be Luna AND Filch AND Cormac.

This is probably my favourite picture, in which Dumbledore ([livejournal.com profile] playwithfyr ) councils Harry ([livejournal.com profile] ravelqueen ) while indulging in an Eccles Cake. Lemon of Sorcery? )

And then we spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get a picture of us all, battling the Great Evils of camera timers, falling over supports, PR running too slowly and General Smiling Fail.

But here we are, a merry band of marmfish, and a bonus Fake News Interloper (can you spot him?)Picnic the first )

Then we went for a walk around Fair London Town, which included nearly getting run over outside Downing Street, navigating by luck and an encounter with this statue.
CLIVE )

Van: Does that statue just say "Clive"? Who is Clive?
Me: It's-
Van: Wait, there's something else. I think it says... Clive the Man Whore?
Fishes: Fall about laughing
Van: So good they built him a statue.
Me: Um. It's Robert Clive. Clive of India? Never mind. I like Clive the Man Whore better.

We spent the rest of the day on The South Bank, then it was back to PR's for me, play, Rav and Boo. We got pizza (ordered under the name Fish), and played Guitar Hero and chatted until 3am, in our nest of duvets and sleeping bags and soft toys.

The next day we took turns supervising Play making cupcakes. It's not that we don't trust her, it's just that she encourages people to play with fire. Me and Play may have turned them into more half icing half cake creations, which we took to our picnic outside Foyles. Foyles is, in fact, a bookshop, the perfect bookshop, in fact. It had a window display of many lovely supernatural books including The Demon's Lexicon, and deckchairs and grass upon which to picnic. What could be better?
Picnic the second )

And then, THEN, we went to the IMAX to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. With 12 whole minutes of 3-D! We had to rope two random people into joining us to get a group ticket. They were looking somewhat perturbed at the prospect until they found out they didn't actually have to sit with us.

Which was probably a good thing.

3-D Trailers: *Start*
Fishes: Ooooo!
Rav: *Clutches Lal's arm everytime something comes towards them*

HBP: *starts*
Fishes: OOOOO! Hi 3-D Hottest Waitress In The World!

Dumbledore: *touches Harry's arm*
Van: *Holds up a finger*
Lal: Score One for Innapropriate Student/Teacher moments!

Draco Malfoy:*glowers, prettily*
Rav: OH DRACO *reaches out for screen*
Lal: Remember Ladies, Draco Malfoy is not your boyfriend.

MUCH QUOTING FROM [livejournal.com profile] sarahtales 's PARODY LATER

Snape: *pushes Draco up against a wall*
Van: Twenty Two!
Lal: This would be the most hardcore drinking game EVER.

Burrow: *burns down*
Lal: I always forget that this isn't canon. It only happened in fanfic. Oh dear.
Rav: Wait, really?

Film: * Is generally funny, touching, perfectly teenager-y, beautifully shot and well acted*

Fishes: Discuss the hilarity of Wizarding Genetics. You get to look like you father! But with your mother's eyes! That's how genetics works, kids! Also, Final Count of 36 innapropriate moments.

Then we went and bought books. Well, I say we bought books, I stealth read books and Van bought erotica. Then we found our very own busker! Or at least one that seemed to fit with the marmfish agenda.

Busker: *sings song about an alien*
Fish: Do you know any songs about zombies?
Busker: Um. No. But here is something similar! *sings song about serial killer*
Fish: *cheer*
Other Spectators *notice matching Demon Mark Necklaces, edge away from Potential Death Cult*

Then he sang rude songs and blamed us. The rest of the fish blamed me. I am resigned to such things.

Then we had to leave for trains and coaches and the like, after group hugs and pendant hugs and tube shenanigans, I got to Victoria Coach Station. FIVE MINUTES TOO LATE.

Lal: *phones PR*
PR: Oh man, me and Rav are just about to go into the theatre. If you'd only phoned five minutes earlier...

So I got to sit outside the National Theatre for 3 hours. It was surprisingly fun, actually, because London is cool and interesting, and the theatre has a square outside it full of people reading and picnicing. Plus it is very pretty at night.
I heart LDN )

And then we went back to PR's and me and Rav talked about language for three hours. PR mostly slept, then claimed not to be sleeping every half hour or so. So I did not mind missing my coach all that much. Especially because the next day I got to witness

PR: *runs into room where Rav and Lal are sleeping* I GOT IN!
Which was her way of informing us that she got marvellous A-level results and is going to her first choice university.

And I got to have Japenese food with Rav (student of Japanese) and find out that she has been to my friend from school's house, because he is a friend of a friend. How random is that? Marmalade Bonds of Destiny!

And then I went home, finally!

A Good Time Was Had By All.

laliandra: (music <3)
This post is especially for two fantabulous sets of ladies, the very shiny [livejournal.com profile] marmalade_fish , and the ever beloved Ladies of Spam.

My first fandom meet up was amazing! I had so much fun! I mean, I suspected that I would, seeing as I spent a ridiculous/insane amount of time with many of my fellow fishes in the chat. I wish you all could have been there!

I got the bus to London, which wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Also, when I was waiting at the station...

Guy: *appears to be staring at my boobs*
Lal:*raises eyebrow*
Guy: No, sorry, oh god, I was just trying to see what the last line was!
Lal:*looks down at zombie bf tee* Oh, sorry. It says "He's a zombie."

Later I met [livejournal.com profile] hanelissar and had coffee and made excited noises at her, then we found [livejournal.com profile] altogetherisi and we all were a little dazed and delighted together.

The signing was at Murder101 club and was filled with many charming people, like [livejournal.com profile] playwithfyr , who made us a marmalade fish sign to attract fellow fishes, because we felt marching up to people and asking them their thoughts on lasagne might be a little too strange. And I met my fellow Sekrit Nefarious Organising Woman [livejournal.com profile] pigrescuer and also [livejournal.com profile] littlered2 , both of whom were sporting very excellent tee shirts, and lots of other super cool fun people whose names escape me (so sorry!).

The Author herself was very sweet, very witty and knew who I was, which still makes me happy to think about! The infamous 'they' claim that you should never meet your heroes, but that, my friends, is a lie.

In short, everyone I met was someone I could have talked to all night, and I was very sad when I had to leave. Like I said, I've never done anything like that before, and I feel all kinds of lucky to have stumbled across such a great fandom, Even if people keep blaming me for things on the chat...

VERY IMPORTANT ETA: The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] bryoneybrynn  is giving away a free copy of The Demon's Lexicon. Go here to enter!

Also, for my other lovely ladies (and anyone else who wishes to hear my dulcet tones), I present my AudioSpam, in which I say 'um...' a lot, and showcase my terrible language skills.

Here!

I hope you like it bbs!

I have nothing much to do at the moment, besides write and bake and generally doss about. So now is clearly the time for Acts of Spontenaity!

So tomorrow I'm going to London for the day to go to the meet up and book signing of a certain Miss Sarah Rees Brennan. I, um, may have mentioned her around here before. Once or twice...

It's going to be AMAZING. There are many excellent and cool people in her fandom and I will get to meet some of them! Anyone on the le flist going? I will be the girl in the zombie boyfriend tee shirt and expression somwhere between dazed and delighted.

And then I actually get to meet one of my favourite writers! I am very prepared to blither like a complete idiot.

It does mean that I have to spend a slightly ridiculous amount of time on coaches, be in London for about 7 hours and get home at some god-forsaken hour.

But I don't care! I've never done anything fandom-y before, ever.

Oh, this is how my housemates took the news.

Lal: In conclusion, this may the geekiest thing I have ever done.
Housemates: *burst out into hysterical laughter*
Lal:...

So, RL and fandom collide. Will I survive the impact? Will I be able to say anything more than "awbhfzhk" to Sarah? I'm looking forward to finding out!

So today I had a French Exam. Which was my last exam. Which means

I HAVE FINISHED MY DEGREE!

*flails with glee/panic*

I am off to pay my library fines, have some chocolate and try to wrap my head around this.

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!

EEEEE!
