The Postcard Puzzle Project aka Everyone Lal Knows Is Made of Actual Win continues apace. I only have one word missing!

Look! (the lightening bolt was actually done by [ profile] mcollinknight and sadly has to cover most of [ profile] azurelunatic 's lovely work because her word was my actualfax surname and I like to pretend that I have some semblance of anonymity)

It's so BEAUTIFUL and full of rainbows and delight and marmalade. I think when it's all done I will have to write a really detailed entry in which I thank you all one by one and am generally gushing and embarrassing, and then you can all hang out in comments and congratulate each other on your fancy art skillz.

Also! Part 2, the part with flyers for French tutoring (which sadly I cannot show you, again, RL details) is a go! Nat used his time and resources at work excellently and printed a bunch off, so any ideas about places to put them would be gratefully received.
Furthermore (see I know other words that aren't also. I just like it)! I got to go hang out with [ profile] moogle62 in her hilltop lair for a couple of days and it was fabulous. You will all be, I'm sure, completely unsurprised to learn that she is just as wonderful in real life as she is online.
We said that whoever of us posted about it first (why is it me? MOOG HOW HAVE YOU ACHIEVED THIS?  *checks totem*) had to sum up our day in .gifs and or the internet memes we referred to on a near constant basis, thus alienating anyone else from our conversation. I don't have quite the resources that she does (because obviously one of the things that you do when you hang out with fanpeople is go through their folders of gifs and fanvids and macros and so on. Obviously. We are TOTALLY  COOL)
Lal: *gets on train to see Moog*
Train: *goes North*
Fog: * descends*
Lal: *is alarmed* *texts Moog in alarm*
Moog: *cackles* *strokes white cat* AH, YOU ARE APPROACHING MY LAIR.
Lal:*arrives at train station*
Moog: You have come to creep on my hills!
Lal: YES I have come to creep on your hills!
Everyone else around them: ...
Moog: Welcome! Unfortunately it is raining all of the rain in the world. But!  There are still many things we can do...
Moog and Lal: *talk solidly for 8 hours*
Most of the conversations summed up:  -
Moog or Lal: I think this!
Lal or Moog: I agree!

So after surfacing from that we watched The Social Network because some things just have to be done.

The Social Network watching experience summed up:-

Harvard: *appears*
Lal: *repeats this every time Harvard is shown*
Moog: *for some reason does not order her out of the house*

Hand Covers Bruise: *plays*
Lal and Moog:

 Mark and Eduardo: *are*
Lal and Moog:

So that was awesome. Then we discussed fic! And also how everyone we know is amazingly and unfairly talented.

Lal: I love how all fics end with Chris in a corner, weeping.

TSNBB: *is mentioned*
Lal and Moog:

Moog: I am writing other things. Let me tell you about the were-unicorn story

The next day we spent a lot of time in bed on tumblr totally got up at a reasonable hour and then had coffee for breakfast. And then we made Inception cupcakes! I'd bought these miniature silicon cupcake moulds and so I thought, a cupcake inside a cupcake!

The process is simple. Ish. You make tiny cupcakes (we made ours green for... some reason)

and then you put them in the normal size cases and cover them in a different colour cake batter (chocolate, for reasons of deliciousness) and bake. And you get something that looks like this!
You have NO  IDEA how excited we were when we unpeeled the cases and there was a green circle on the bottom.

And then you frost them.

It's a pretty simple process. That is if you're not two people already giddy on pretty faces who haven't consumed nothing but coffee and cake mixture and spoonfuls of icing. It also helps if you're not sort of pretending to be Sweet On You characters.

Lal: We could add lemon to the frosting!
Moog: We could make it GREEN. THE  FINEST GREEN.
Lal: You know how you made Mark make a cake by hand? This is what he'd be doing.
Moog: With Wardo laughing at him, all, it's not so easy now!

Frosting: *remains resolutely unstiff*

Lal: The lemon may have been an error.
Moog: *shakes fist* LEMONNNNNNN
Lal: I cried and my tears were lemon.
Moog: I cried and I was in the lemon.
Moog: But... I have to get it PERFECT. If I just add some more icing sugar.
Lal: Don't you understand, Wardo, the consistency is all wrong.
Moog: But Mark I'm ~cold and ~bored.

And the frosting sex that they would have afterwards was not discussed at all. O.o

And then we ate something that wasn't sugar. It was for the best.

During the afternoon we continued to randomly add the word lemon into, well, everything. And I made Moog watch High School Musical as part of a Truly Terrible No I Mean Awful But Really Enjoyable movie session. She enjoyed it. Don't let her tell you different. MY  POST, MY  RULES. And the new Spiderman trailer got leaked!

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone: *appear*
Moog and Lal:

Moog and Lal: SUCH  A  LEMON  FACE.

So that was an awesome couple of days and I already pine for my mornaltwin of typos and lemon.

And also! The other day we were talking on Twitter about various things, UST and writing and the fact that I tend to abandon sentences in my documents while they are half finished and then I come to them a day or two later and have NO  IDEA how they are meant to finish. [ profile] branquignole suggested that all the sentences end with make outs, and I felt bad about how all of the sentences wouldn't end with make outs, so I gave her a teaser trailer sentence. And then she translated it into German!  So that became kind of a thing.

So, have some sentences of my heist!AU in German. I couldn't decide whether or not to put the English in, so I decided not to and then if y'all want to know what they say, you can ask. Or give it a shot yourself. It's super exciting to me to see my words in another language. I'm such a language dork...

Tales of adventures are always awesome. Tales of adventures WITH ADDED GIFS AND IMAGES are so awesome that I'm not sure how the internet hasn't broken yet. This post is amazing and I love it! <3 I love your floor of words (it is so cool to see them all together, it looks better than I ever could have imagined) and I love your Inception cupcakes and that you had such a fabulous time with [ profile] moogle62 and that flyers are a go and basically EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL IN THIS POST.

And oh my gosh YAY for random German it is weirdly the most awesome thing ever to see your words in another language isn't it?! I did not expect to be as entranced and excited as I was but it turns out I was. And your words look exceptionally excellent, I cannot wait to see the English version which I understand! :P

Love you massively Lal my lovely!

Hee, thank you! You should probably know that we really did act out most of those gifs in a really literal way. Hand gestures, cushion hugging and everything.

I refuse to take up my floor of words even though they are sort of REALLY in the way.

Right? It's so cool and exciting. Well, end of the month, the actual fic will be all yours. You saw the English on Twitter, right?

love you too! See you soooooon :D:D:D:D

I can entirely imagine that. :D And you should completely leave them there forever to remind you forever of your general awesome/fabulousness!

Yay! And yes I did but I don't remember it and woe for I speak no German apart from a few pat phrases my mum used to yell at me when we were little and she wanted to stop me from crying with weird words. So they are like shiny German mysteries to me right now! (This is the weirdest comment ever, it's like I'm drunk and just writing whatever the hell words come to mind. Except that I'm not drunk, just being really, really faily. MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE I'M SO EXCITED THAT THIS TIME NEXT WEEK WE'LL BE HANGING WITH THE MOFF OR SOMETHING, IDK. Either way, I'm too lazy to make it make sense so sorry!)

(Seriously this comment reads like I'm either really tipsy or high. I'm slightly concerned. But I love you!)

It seems like you and moog had a fabulous time and I'm jealous of your many gif-y adventures, and also I want Inception cupcakes! They look delicious, om nom nom green cupcakes are the awesomest.

I still maintain that all of the sentences should end in make-outs; all of the make-outs, all of the time! And ALSO (I don't know any words that aren't also, but- at least I can pretend... that it's a TSN reference... or something- MY LOVE FOR AARON SORKIN IT KNOWS NO BOUNDS), you posted my tweet translations. ;___; Your words lal fldsgk;slsk they are the best and the German translation comes so easily BECAUSE CLEARLY YOU ARE AMAZING!

Drive by commenting to say that I love love love your translations! As mentioned downthread to Lal, I never read German fic and am not involved in German-speaking fandom at all (besides knowing people who are German/Austrian/Swiss and also IN fandom, and English one at that...which is a whole different ballgame) but if all the fic would be like this then I must be missing out <33!

Especially "Ein Lächeln breitet sich über Wardos Gesicht, Mark kann es unter seiner Handfläche spüren." kann es SPUEREN ahhh das kann man sich richtig so schoen bildlich vorstellen! Du tust auch Lal's Gabe fuer geniale Metapher und uh, 'banter' richtig gut umsetzen *_*bb

MAINLY the thing that sticks out to me the most is how utterly effortless reading it feels. Most of the time when I am reading something in German where I KNOW the characters aren't originally German (be it a novel translation even), I can never quite stop myself from wondering how the sentences would sound in the original language and I always somehow feel that a lot of the more *handwavey* German translations feel stilted, almost. I think it's also because of the sheer differences in slang/casual language in English and in German and how that affects your perception of the characters when you know you're reading a translated story?

Like for instance, I could barely watch more than a few minutes of the German dub of SPN because the way it was translated (and of course, the shoddy voice actors, but that is also a different story)-- the whole way the Winchesters talked became really really off in the German dub. You lost the blue-collar nuance, or even just any hint of accents. It was like some weird hyper-clean standardized German and that soured the whole thing for me.

And in Bran's translation she managed to A) capture the banter-y nuance in their conversation excellently and B) take your lovely descriptions and turn them into German with a lovely light touch that really conveys the same HAPPYSIGHHHH feeling you get when you read it in English, too.

aww thank you, you are way too kind. ;___; They are of course rather quick and dirty and out of context, and they would probably be more accurate ~in context, but they were so much fun to do and I'm glad you like them! I'm not really all that involved in German fandom myself apart from posting my translations because I generally find that English fandom is a nicer and more diverse place to be. (:

Oh, das mag ich auch besonders gern! Aber lal hat das auch so schön geschrieben. *___* Ob das lal wohl paranoid macht, wenn wir auf Deutsch über sie schreiben? Um, 'banter' = 'Geplänkel'? omg the German language, so bereft, I don't think we have a word that accurately expresses what banter is supposed to be! D:

<333 I RAMBLED ON A BIT ABOUT MY FEEEELINGS about your translation to Lal in an above comment, hope you don't mind XDD. And yeah, English fandom is where it's at! The best part is getting to randomly mix German and English with the German-speaking fellow fans that one finds though :DD. (I don't even wanna start with Thai fandom, that is just too stressful for me... and also apparently splintered out in all the social networking platforms I don't use lolll SO MUCH FOR THAT).

Hee anscheinend kommt sie eh ganz gut mit, SCHNELL LASS UNS AUF DIALEKT BZW. ARGER UMGANGSPRACHE WEITERMACHEN ;DD. Aber jaaa... Geplaenkel passt irgendwie nicht so richtig ne-- das ist fuer mich doch zu sehr negativ konnotiert? BANTER geht eh am besten loll. Ich existier' aber eh in ein staendiges Sprachenwirrwarr-- dementsprechend war es auch so erfrischend deine Uebersetzungen zu lesen und zu sehen, was die pure deutsche Sprache auch kann ;DD

OF COURSE I DON'T MIND YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS ARE SUPER INTERESTING TO ME. Translating the tone of something (instead of the actual words) is very important to me, so for me, translating is more about conveying the atmosphere/the tone/the way the characters speak instead of literally translating everything, and knowing that it actually works means a lot to me. <3

IKR, there are so many German-speaking people all over English fandom! It's lovely. Also, do you mind if I friend you? (:

Haha, verdammt. :D ICH KANN LEIDER KEINEN DIALEKT. (Ich würde dich wahrscheinlich auch nicht mehr verstehen, wenn du mit Österreichisch anfängst...) Genau, Geplänkel fängt das einfach nicht so gut ein, das klingt so sehr nach einer Unterhaltung, die vor sich hinplätschert, dabei ist banter ja mehr so was wie ein Schlagabtausch... oder... ARGH DEUTSCH. :D

Hurraaaah nee dude, friend away! I was about to ask myself lol I always dance around this like some Victorian lady XDD Was gonna wait for the promised **Lal Postcard Project Friending Meme** but I couldn't resist jumping you in the comments :DD /impatient

Wiiiiiie? Ernsthaft?

We had the most fabulous time. Fangirls are the best of people. They were pretty delicious! We had a whole discussion about how the sprinkles were the city, the frosting was the hotel, the chocolate cake the hospital and the green cake limbo.

Well, that would be an interesting writing challenge! Make outs are pretty tough to write, also. Darling, you are the loveliest.

I think these are the most interesting thoughts on cupcakes I have ever heard! (ugh my eyes are going rather unfocused rn, it's so laaate!) SO IF THE GREEN CAKE IS LIMBO, IS LIMBO A GOOD THING THEN? I THINK SO. Oh and lal, I'm going to a birthday party next Friday and I'm supposed to bring cupcakes, only I have no idea what to make; any recipe recommendations? :D

But you know I would be cheerleading endlessly. BECAUSE MAKEOUTS ARE WIN, AND WRITING MORE MAKEOUTS WILL MAKE ALL OF OUR LIVES BETTER. (They are also tough to translate though, I ~understand! D:)

Honestly, what were you doing up at that time, TUT *hypocrite*

The green cake has to be limbo! I have many cupcake recipes, anything in particular? How complicated do you want to go? Is there something the person particularly likes? Or that you think would be cool? Because I have books of cupcakes recipes. What do YOU like, flavourwise?

Hee, maybe I will try that sometime. The sentence actually ended with Wardo laughing at Mark.

(oh and I am reading and mostly understanding your comments in German. Not all! But the words I don't know I stick into wordreference so :P)

I got home, and then I kind of- happened across my laptop. You know how it goes. :D

Mmh, I especially like vanilla/walnut/that kind of thing, but apart from banana, there's probably not much I ~wouldn't eat. Chocolate is classy of course, but I only know boring recipes for chocolate cupcakes. ): I'd prefer it if it wasn't something too complicated, but it doesn't have to be uber simple, so... something in between maybe?

What a waste of a perfectly fine makeout sentence, lal! :D But Wardo laughing at Mark is always much appreciated as well. *wants to read* *wibbles*

(Your knowing German is kind of freaking me out, I feel like you are constantly ~LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER OR SOMETHING, okay okay who's being paranoid now LAL STOP LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER)

EEEEEEEEEEEE one more piece to go! How exciting :DD

And I meant to ask on twitter anyways-- so the Inception cupcakes weren't like pistachio flavored?? I was wondered about the green, too XDD

FIC IN GERMAN! Your fic in German! It is so so so strange to be reading fic bits in German, I have no idea why I have such a mental block against it-- think it stems from my animanga days when I stumbled over some really crappy ones and it was so strange seeing the Japanese names and have them speak German to each other (although why reading about Japanese characters talking in English = normal didn't ping me as being equally as strange should be ahem, ignored XDD)

Ahhh, Community icon WIN.

Nope. I was going to leave as white because they were vanilla flavoured, but then we needed vanilla essence, so Moog went to the shop and also bought green food colouring. So. Yes. Green!
